do any of the jukeboxes or ipods ect show up as portable harddrives when connected to a pc or do they require a driver and software installation.i am thinking of buying one and would love one that has this facility. any suggestions on the beast place to buy them and the best one would also be appreciated.
    cheers

Yeah, I've an iPod plugged in to my system now and it just shows up as a removable drive. Once "disk mode" is enabled you can plug it into any machine with a USB or Firewire port (assuming you have the cables/connectors of course :)). I'd image most players have this kind of facility.

The Creative players don't offer that feature, but the iRiver ones do (as far as i know). Also, the iRiver players have longer battery life and better codec support. I'd recommend an iRiver over an iPod or Creative Jukebox.

Why do I always want more? :(;)

Rio Karmas don't, you can upload and download whatever you want using the Rio Music Manager, and it appears as a readonly drive in windows so you can access the software, but thats all, to use the disk space you have to use either the Java applett or Rio music manager.

Its much better that way too, players that show up as hard drives always sort the music in the order your uploaded it in. The Karma sorts by artist name, which saves on your time and also battery (files are quicker to access)

I'm not sure I understand that. The iPod can synchronise, or you can upoload individual tracks through a manger app (iTunes, musicmatch etc) and they automatically get grouped so you can browse or play by artist, album, genre etc. The hard drive mode is completely seperate in that you can save anything to it in a file/folder system via windows explorer (for example), but the music playing software doesn't see it. Useful for backing up temporarily or moving large amounts of data.

Does the Karma not do this?

just to let u know the zen doesnt offer that plug and use like the person above said, but once you have the drivers installed on your machine a second one can be used off it no problem!!

me and my mate do it he has the drivers on his laptop and when he plugs either of them in they work perfect, but they dont plug into another computer we have the drivers installed in, they cant be switched!! (we use them in college and u need admin rights)

they are really good i love my one only thing is my brother had it and must have steped on it so its broken have to send it back to creative!!

does anyone know what there like when dealing with returns?

    Philip

    hey phillip,

I got a zen nx and I dropped it while transferring a song to it on the day after I recieved it, and it the hard disc was damaged beyond repair. So, I rang creative the next day and they were friendly enough, after they exhausted all of the usual tech support check lists, they just asked that I return it to them by post (luckily, they're based in blanchardstown). Although, I bought that from the creative online store, so if you bought it from a high street retailer or another online store, you'd probably have to get back to them.

The next day my credit card was credited for the postal costs and I recieved a brand new zen package a couple of days later. Havn't had any bother with it since.
