Interesting to see so many folks buying over-seas these days, don't blame ya's at all...I've seen so many smashing deals on the web for Drumming gear, it's scary. Mind you..with so many folks TALKING ABOUT IT HERE AND ELSEWHERE!!...how long do you think the RESPONABLE musical retailers are going to stay still, before they give a wink to a "struggling TD" to find a way of closing what is obviously a much bigger loop hole than many of them think!
My advice for what it's worth is for anyone thinking of buying overseas to keep it quiet and just do it, it's only a matter of time before some ass from a shop gets together with a few more, petition the "right" TD and get some legislation in to stop it by getting EVERY musical instrument that arrives from the US or Europe that's hoping to pay NO duty - stopped at customs for checks etc. So keep a tight lip folks and don't let these apes get the upper hand on us.

    ciao' amigos...Baggio

There is no way they could stop trade within the EU. Gloat. Try out the gear in musicmaker then tell them you can get it for 2/3 the price from a friendly German and if they don't want to match it they can fuck off.

If you are thrill seeker you could try and whisper in the ears of other customers, slip them a card with musicstore or thomann url on it, wink wink, nudge nudge. Or stand outside and leaflet, get the Germans to pay you to!!

I've always paid tax and duties on things from the US and they still worked out cheaper. Considering that we buy from Retailers and not Wholesalers or Manufacturers, and that it's cheaper to buy in bulk: you really have to wonder why things cost so much here. Most of these places are shops and have staff, so I don't think that's where the money goes. I reckon just about anyone could start buying from German retailers, set up a stall, and start undercutting the music shops in Dublin.
