Anyone know of an alternative to the Linuxant drivers for my Conexant WinModem?

I've just upgraded my Mandrake install, and the new version of their drivers won't let me go past 14.4kbps without buying a license. Damn Dell and their shoddy ****ing modem anyway..

    http://erkan.iqchoice.com/downloads/winmodems/

You can get one of the versions of the linuxant modem drivers there, one from before they started charging.

I've used both the ltmodem and Intel vham drivers for winmodems..

It may just be time to start rolling your own kernel.
If your modem is supported by one of these drivers, you can compile your own module for the kernel you are using.

There are thousands of "Conexant Winmodems".
Which one do you have? Dell is the only clue you give.
Post the output of lspcidrake so we can see what you have.
What release of Mandrake have you just upgraded to?
Have you tried just using your old kernel that worked
with the modem with your new install?

    There's still hope!

all you need to know is whether its HCF of HSF

i used to use the old beta ones which worked fine with 9.1

when i upgraded to 9.2 (the old beta was stopped and wouldn't work for it anyway)

so i have to use the free 14.4k , even with 10 which i use now its still only a free 14.4.k, so i got a loan of an external 33k :)

by the way if u are using 9.2 (which is 2.4) its compatible with an internal PCI hardware modem that maplin's are selling for 15 yoyo

    :)

    It's a HSF modem and I'm running Mandrake 10 (kernel 2.6).

Looks like I'm stuck with 14.4 then. Thanks for the advice anyway.

..and the license for linuxant is $15 aswell. I just don't understand why there isn't more support for these things.

what annoys me the most is that the people who have paid $15 dollars for a driver, they should stick the drivers up somewhere and share them with the rest of us packet starved users :(

well conexant is to blame really, licencing out their technology like that, just too lazy to do it them selves, i for one will never buy a conexant modem again because of it.. this one came free with a dell..

You've got three choices that don't leave you at 14.4k.
Spend 15 dollars on a driver or 15 euro on a better modem.
Alternatively, look into running kernel 2.4 with your Mandrake 10 install.
