    Not to be pedantic, but he was taken over by a Goa'uld in the pilot episode "Children of the Gods" (we see his eyes glow at the very end of the episode). It was "The Enemy Within" that dealt with it :)

    AFAIK, Kawalski was to have been - originally - a more long term member of the show. However, rumour has it that the actor who played him (Jay Acovone) was difficult to work with, so they lopped his head off in "The Enemy Within".

    Well, he did come back for a number of alternate reality / dream episodes.

    I know more than 1 person who things he is brillent and should have stayed as a on and off charactor like Senitor Kinsey. Mabe leaving kawalski in command of SG2 and just givimng him the odd guest appearence.
