Irish account direct debit for UK Sky sub

Was on to Sky earlier. I'm planning on taking out a UK subscription, but want to pay by direct debit from my Irish AIB account. The CS guy said it wouldn't be a problem as long as my bank can handle a request for sterling.

    1. Does anyone know if AIB do this?

    2. Has anyone else tried this and worked?

Basically, I'm concerned that if I subscribe with my credit card, it will be rejected (I see on Digi Spy that there have been problems with non-UK credit cards with payments being rejected and subscriptions cancelled). I realise the DD method would be kinda messy, what with exchange rates changing.

EDIT: Oh well, the bank tell me its not possible. Looks like I'll have to risk the credit card payment method.

AFAIK the Credit Card thing was caused by some sort of SW glitch in Sky. it happened to people in Spain, UK, Italy etc, ringing Sky seems to have usually sorted it out.

    But I could be wrong...

Watty .. I looked back on posts here, and I gather it happened in Ireland too, something to do with expiry dates on newly-issued cards. Haven't seen anything in past two weeks though, so hopefully verything will work out.

Just wondering, when Sky send the contracts to the UK address, is there a Freepost envelope that can be posted from Ireland? I don't want them to see an Irish postmark.

And, when I receive my card, do I have to ring up to activate it? Not that it matters really, I'm ex-directory, so not worried about Caller ID, just out of curiousity.

Is it possible for me to ring Sky and ask for a Uk card to be sent out to my Irish address paying through credit card?

    No!

You need an address with a UK postcode. It is postcode regionalised too.

What I did was got the addressee in UK to forward contract to me, I filled it and returned to them, and they sent it to SKy

And when you get the Card, yes, you need to ring the number on the card. Shouldn't be a problem though.

My credit card expires in December but I hope that Sky have the issues ironed out by then.

Sound. Should have it done by the middle of next month. Can't wait.

Skyuser — please don't duplicate posts, it just confuses matters here.

Using a credit card is easier . The cc problems with Sky have been resolved. You can put an Irish stamp on the envelope they don't give a **** where it came from. $$$$$$$

Not so, I'm afraid. My credit card expired at end of March and I got the letter from Sky saying they could not collect my sub. I had to go through all the details again with them. My only issue is that I will have to do all this again within the next six months, as AIB have issued me with a "temporary" card which is only valid until September. This is because they are issuing new "chip & pin" credit cards later on in the year. When I told the Sky guy this he said I would have to repeat this process in September

What details do they ask for. Do they want confirmation of address?

Sorry Buckfast. What I should have said was that I had to go through the details of my credit card & expiry date with them again. I can't remember if they asked for address confirmation. They did ask for my phone number when I called, which presumably presented them with any information they have about me on file. They also tried to charge me a €5 fee for sending the letter telling me that my card had expired. When I told them that I wanted to cancel my subscription they suddenly waived the charge.
