I saw this on TV waaaaaayyyyyyy back in 1978 & pretty much forgot about it... Last night though a mate gave me a DVD with a really bad copy of the damn thing on it...

It's like being nine years old again... :D

I've heard it's utter tripe that takes place on Endor and envolves Ewoks and Boba Fett amongst other things. I didn't particularly like the Ewoks cartoon as a kid (though I didn't mind them in the movie at all, nor did I mind Jar Jar for that matter) so I'm gonna avoid like the plague.

It is *utter* tripe, with ham acting & carrie fisher singing (ok kids, we're gonna finish with a big musical number), but essential viewing (at least once) for any star wars fan.

Tripe is tripe, and shouldn't be viewed simply for completionism or fandom as your are supporting the creation of complete rubbish for no real reason. I'm going to avoid this same as I'm avoiding the Clone Wars cartoon.

If it comes to the point where I wish to know what actually happens in this movie or anything else i'm avoiding, the Internet (tm) provides for me, and i'll simply open google, tap in a quick search term and read a short synopsis.

    What about this:

    The Ewok Adventure

I saw this labelled as "The Caravan of Courage" when I was a kid. I even remember it being crap back then!

It's like a car crash, you are drawn in to look. You need to see it just to see how bad it is. However after you watch it you'll never look at star wars in the same light again. Its like having the perfect family unit, cosby's, sliver spoons, etc, then coming home one evening to find the rest of your family locked in some S&M scene for pulp fiction. Trust me it is that scary.

Seriously, after seeing this you starting looking at Mr. Lucas in a new light. He ceases to be the artist with a vision and becomes just another sell out producer who would do anything for a fast buck. Back then it was this Christmas special and now it phantom menace and attack of the clones. The only difference is that in the latter the money grabbing is a little more subtle.

I still find it funny that one of the suggestions for the subtitle for epsiode 2 on theforce.net was:

Star Wars: Episode 2: Just Give Me The Money Dammit.

Im afraid your getting mixed up with your films, the holiday special has nothing to do with ewoks, the 1978 holiday special is to do with Chewbacca and his family, basically Chewbacca has to get back to Kasshyyk to spend life day with his family, theres a lot of famous faces in there, ART CARNEY, one of the actresses in the golden girls, Darth Vader etc plus the cast of Star Wars, and yes carrie fisher does sing at the end.

George Lucas absolutely hates this TV special, he refuses to acknowledge that it was ever made, he has called it rubbish and hateful, so the likely hood of it getting a release on DVD is absolute zero

It is notable for one thing though, it has the first appearence anywhere of boba fett, albeit in animated form

There was 2 ewok films made in the early 80's

The Ewok Adventure: Caravan of Courage
    Ewoks: the Battle for Endor

These are strictly for Star Wars completists only, an announcement was made in july 2001 that a 3 disk DVD version of these films were going to be released, but nothing has been heard of that project since

Anyhoo hope that clears up the confusion

    Shin

I have to admit that the Clone wars mini series is actually pretty good (or at least the second series of it is).

There's a couple of good episodes to watch out for. 1 is anakin fighting another sith, and the other is a sith fighting about 5 jedi (and 1 padawan for as long as he lasts). Very very good fight scene.
