The GF wants to buy her friend a porno vid for his 18th and I've been set the task of finding the thing.
Never realised it'd be so hard to find VHS stuff. She only has 20€ to spend including shipping. Anyone know a good place to go online?

C'mon; you can't find porn on the internet? Try Capel Street, then. There are shops a-plenty there. Don't know whether 'Private' the shop is related to Private the company (producer of The Uranus Experiment, proudly boasting the first zero-gee, er, emission; it was shot on the vomit comet).

Then, of course, there's the question of what constitutes 'good' porn. Number of participants, variety of positions, inclusion of midgets, etc, etc; we all have our own tastes.

I just tried to change my description from 'fast newbie' to 'unhelpful knobber', but sadly there doesn't seem to be an option to do so. Oh well.

As for bucking my new description, I'll just suggest this; be very wary of buying from a UK site. The tapes'll probably be BBFC-certified, in which case there's no way they'd be quality. Others may disagree - I'd be happy to hear from anyone who bought a good tape/disk that had one of those red 18s on it- but in my experience they're a waste of money. And expensive; €20 is only about £13.

Try hardcorevhs.com , but you'll probably end up spending around €30 once postage is taken into account.

Was nice and cheap at 8£ I think it was.
Couldn't care less what the quality of the vid is like. Sure I'll take it for a spin before I give it to herself put at least the cash isn't coming from me.

It's legal as long as it's for personal use. How personal that use has to be the statutes don't actually say. But just to be sure, you might want to keep a sample as evidence after you've finished using it personally. Just be sure to keep it in the fridge.

As for unclassified, but unprohibited material, it's not illegal to import, but customs can refer it to the censor's office, and it will probably be confiscated:

That said, if you get dvds or tapes posted to your home address, the likelihood of anything happening is extremely slim. You could use a PO box, but the cost of that might make it more worthwhile to buy in a shop. Apparently all porn for sale in Ireland is bootlegged, by the way, and all porn later than 1994 is illegal as it is unclassified or banned.

As far as I was aware, the Video Recordings Act refers only to specific titles; those on the banned list. But now that I look at the act I was think of - the 1946 Censorship of Publications Act - the language is pretty similar. Guess you can bring in all the dirty mags you like, but not so with videos (hmm. Is 'video' defined anywhere?)

I suspect you're correct. The BBFC have very stringent regulations about what can and can't be seen (erections are out[1] for one thing). Includes what is available on video and broadcast. There's an exception for licensed sex shops which can pretty much sell anything that isn't actually banned. In which case I'd suggest some of the seedier parts of Westminster. Which again is probably useless to the OP's girlfriend.

(if my girlfriend decided to buy a friend a porn tape for his 20th birthday I'd be just a little suspicious. I suspect the rest of humanity would feel the same way. If she doesn't know what he's into it's a useless purchase. If she does, well, it's your life and all that)
