    Hi there
I want to spent a month or two backpacking around NZ , september/october time.
I've been to Oz before and stayed for longer, but 2 months tops is all I will have time for.

My plan in NZ is to get something like a Kiwi Experience bus ticket (or maybe hire a car), stop off for a day or two in each place along the route - maybe longer if it's worhwhile - , see the tourist sights/good scenery, move on. What is unmissable? I don't mind roughing it a little bit, I'll have a tent with me, and am into kayaking, mountain biking, etc.

Id like to do a 3-4 day bushwealking while I'm there, something the equivalent of the Overland Track in Tasmania, anyone know some good walks?

Also I might like to stop in Fiji/Bali on the way there for a few days diving/lying on a beach, anyone any recommendations? I am a qualified diver.

hope some of ye can tell me some stories,

    thx

    s.

im planning on heading that way myself around the same time and ive been looking into the whole kiwi experience. what ive found is that its not the best, your better off going for the magic bus tour which is pretty much the same except its more reliable - some people have said that they have had to wait days for a place on a kiwi exp bus (especially in high season) while if you give the magic bus 24 hours notice there will be a place for you the next day even if they have to put on a bus just for you.
its not as much of a booze trip - the kiwi experience is mainly a younger crowd and is sometimes more like a really long pub crawl than a tour with everybody hung over during the day and missing the scenery.
its apariently cheaper if you get the ticket when you get to auckland if thats where your heading into although if its high season you may want to book instead.
i got all my info from http://travellerspoint.com which is a good traveller forum where you can ask other travellers, or people from the countrey your heading to, questions.
    hope this is helpfull,
    p.
