I'm trying to sell my Dell Inspiron 5150(still under warrenty) for 1500-1400 euros on buyandsell

the exact configured price of my Inspiron on Dell's website is 1874 VAT and Delivery

This Idiots! go to the dell's website, configure inspirons, forgetting that mine has winxp pro(75 euros) forgetting that mine comes with a carry case(50) forgetting about the WLAN card(45) and many other things like UXGA screen

then!...they look at the price, Excluding VAT! and not Including! which is the real price

then they blow my phone up! with calls! asking if I could sell mine for 1000 cause they "saw" on dell's website that a laptop like mine costs 1300!

I'm trying to explain to them! they don't get it!

Good Job Dell! many people get caught with that excluding VAT thing, and when you recieve it bam!

Second hand stuff is usually sold cheaper. People always like to bargain. Live with it.

Has your laptop been removed from its packaging, and used? How much of its warranty is gone? In any case, you won't be getting 1400 - 1500 for it. 1200 is more like it.

cyberghost, that's price includes the 3year warranty with online training. I doubt your machine has that. Without the extra 3year warranty, that machine of yours can be bought from dell, brand new with a full 1year warranty, for 1329euro, not 1874!

Good luck in getting 1500euro for it. It may have a few extra features but when it can be bought new for over 170euro cheaper, i know what i'd go for.

and i tihnk most people would be perfectly happy to collect it if it saved them 50 quid, so you can ignore the delivery charge... which further reduces that figure...

    oh my!

ok....., take a look at the picture!
    http://members.boards.ie/cyberghost/config.jpg

this is the exact config of my system with 1 year warrenty!

    how much is it?

1831! right? if you wanted 3 year warrenty that would be + 299 = 2130 right?

and btw, i forgot to add a carry case there! that's another 40

    = with 3 year warrenty 2170!

Wow, Dell's website is just brainwashing people!

AND! that is with a 54 euros off! offer! when it's gone! add up yourself

Mutant_Fruit - I don't think many people would acutally be happy not going to their jobs to go to Limerick! from Dublin - 125KM and lose more money! Gasoline! + the lost money on the job! and no dell doesn't work on saturdays or sundays! and i'm not sure but i think Dell doesn't give an option of collecting yourself at all!

    People buy from dell ??

bizmark, Dell's Desktops suck!(they have very good design though) but their laptops rock!

but unfortunatelly we don't get XPS here!, Ireland as always ripped off!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,639 ✭✭✭[nicK]

the attachment shows that it costs 1269euro for the laptop. Add on a case (40euro) , delivery, and whatever else ya want, it's still not going to cost 1500!

I was looking for a laptop with 128MB Graphics Ram, a Dell with a Radeon 9700 was by far the cheapest I could find.

Bob, they don't look at anything especially specs, no wonder dell makes so much money, everyone shops blindly!

The state of the title. You shall not be getting that price.

If people want to pay full price for a Dell Inspiron 5150 they go to Dell.
If they want a Dell Inspiron 5150 for a bargain price (Say €1000), they go to Buy and Sell.
CyberGhost, nobody can fault your ambition, but........

If you wait long enough, some retard reading the buyandsell might pay you over the odds for it, but you could be waiting a long time. Quoting other peoples ads from the buyandsell gets you nowhere, everyon knows the stupid prices that people ask for in buyandsell ads. You are just making yourself look like one of those people, good work!

    I will offer 400.

If you wait long enough, some retard reading the buyandsell might pay you over the odds for it, but you could be waiting a long time

lol, i can forsee a very long wait ..... being one of the most popular brands you will see in almost all the papers, who always have offers, and if you have bought from them before you are plagued by advertisements in the post. Someone spending that kind of money (even retarded) will check the dell website...... and TBH the general user doesent rate a carry case as a reason for increasing the price (hell i dont), probably doesent know what WIFI is and wont care about it, and Win XP "pro" try telling a "retarded" person the difference !!

TBH, if you want to sell it your going to have a hard time . The extras you have paid for are worth basically nothing to a second hand buyer. You really should make up your mind....... sell it for a more reasonable price and get some money, keep the current price and get the "dumb people who fall for dell's tricks" (in my mind there not dumb at all its just common sence - configure the parts you are going to use) calling you, or hold onto it and let technology pass it buy and its value go down.

Either way, its a silly topic to start and calling people dumb and idiots just because they dont see any value difference between a laptop with XP home and XP pro, WIFI, and something to carry it with......... cmon man.

COL_LOKI, well.......... I guess you are right!

My applogies to the people for calling them dumb! I was a little over excited yesterday

I didn't want to troll, especially on my favourite forum, Sorry!

welcome to my world - I work in Dell sales, and believe me, people REALLY don't recognise the difference in spec. They think a computer is just a computer - they ring me responding to an ad for a business unit, u know, a networkable data input unit - bog standard spec and call me a liar and a cheat when I tell them it has no cdrw/modem/speakers...

but yeah - I try to be fair to these people anyway, try an give a good deal... hoping that 'some fool will pay over the odds for it' is just immoral... sell it for a fair price or keep it...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,558 ✭✭✭CyberGhost

    that i could never understand!

how can you buy something without researching the product throughoutly! all specifications and options!

and when you explain "a bitter truth" to them they call you a lier lol the same is with a VAT!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,299 ✭✭✭✭BloodBath

That first laptop in your list probably cost a lot to buy. 1600x1200 res screnn on a laptop is pricey. Still 1700 second is bull****.
