Why isn't smoking cool anymore ??

When we were growing up we all though the big kids with the fags were, comon' admit it. I know it damages your health and stuff but so does alot of other things we enjoy like masturbating and drinking (my fav pastimes).

So why has this changed ? and why shouldn't we just enjoy the things that we like without being oppressed by the goverment ???

firstly, since when is masturbating bad for you?

secondly, its uncool because thats what happens with fashion, it fades away, that and the increased public knowledge of the damages of smoking which heavily outweigh the 'coolness' of it all

Masturbation will lower your sperm count (not enough for you to go anywhere near being sterile) but nothing else than that.

You should have sex about 3-4 days before the test but not again until after the test is done. If you don't have sex at this time, the count may be very high but the motility will be low. If you have sex nearer the test, the count will be lower.

It'll lower your sperm count, but nothing to be considered significant. I suppose this could be only a temporary thing, but won't give much of a progressive lowering. It would only be a problem with people already with a pretty low sperm count.

The answer to the actual question all stems back to Alcohol/Pubs being cool.

You see, drinking in pubs is cool. But not being able to smoke in pubs now removes the coolness from smoking. So really, all you need to do if you are not cool is drink and you are cool?

Really, smoking hasent really been cool in the last 10 years. When you visit a hopital and find people coughing up themselves and not being able to talk due to smoking related diesases you realise its not cool. Also the fact that a large chunk of our taxes is having to be paid to combat smoking related diesases.... am i getting too serious for After Hours?

the problem is attacking the issue of smoking in school,the whole idea of smoking seen as "being cool" back when your in school is just stupid,its cool right up to the point where you get addicted and then it becomes no laughing matter

Some recent study of teenagers that take up smoking found that they thought smoking was not cool but that the people that smoke are cool.

Sounds like a paradox I know but thats what the anti-smoking people are up against.

as a teen id say smoking looks cool, but I can understand that there is a price to be paid for looking cool. in our year there are very few smokers, and even less stoners, its only a very small minority.

They were all in the time when smoking was cool. They probably smoked because of seeing thier idols smoking.

I havn't lately seen any films that glorify smoking. I remember pulp fiction did, with John Travolta rolling the cig for Uma and die hard with Bruce Willis.

How does showing smoking in a film glorify it? Should every film show smoking in a negative light, or leave it out alltogether?

I'm not saying that any film that has a guy smoking in it automatically glorifies smoking, but some films portray smoking as an integral part of being cool. John Travolta's character, Vince Vegas in Pulp fiction is an example. There's a lot of emphasis on the fact that he's smoking in this scene.
