we've been using take 5 for a while now, and its just not cutting the mustard. it too expensive to start and incrediby difficult to work with.

can anybody reccomend a POS (till), sales and stock control system to me. Open source would be nice, but I doubt it exists.

FF inventory pro is excellent and its free for 60days.Ive set it up for 4 different companies and each one of them has gone on to buy the program. Its has everything you need--Purchasing,Invoicing,accounts,inventory management.
And its only $160 to buy for life.

thats a pretty nifty program, been playing with it for a while now.

do you know of anything that works with stock control in conjunction with a till system?

Dont understand what you mean by till system. The program can do invoices but Ive never tried to link it into a till system.

SAP Business One is supposed to be a good program... its basically a scaled down version of other SAP packages such as R/3 and CRM etc..

Its aimed a small/medium businesses... At €4000 per user it could be expensive enough though if there are about 10 users on the system...

    some info:

do a search on google as well...

HiPOS = teh muck - stable but a bugger to use
WhiPOS = teh muck - unstqable and a bugger to use
RETON - VERY UNSTABLE (double input = crash) - Almost user friendly so long as you have restricted needs and ALOT of patience.

By far the best system I've worked with is the custom one they use in POWERCITY.
The programmer/maintainer is the wife of one of the owners in the 'noggin, it's an ancient looking UNIX terminal based proggie but it's VERY UP TO DATE and is bug tested and customised like fu<k.

any idea how much it would cost to have the "powercity" setup, installed. We currently have one till only!

looked into RETON, but they wanted 10k+, im not quite sure why this kind of software is so expensive!

A friend of mine designed an inventory system thats used in some elec shops in Galway. I can get him to give you a call if you want. AFAIK he still does custom software.

Sap business one is not a scaled down version of the larger versions

Its a product Sap bought and have customised - Its too new to the market to know if its any good or not

Exchequer is a good all round product that I would recomend and has a Trade counter module it might be a bit expensive for you though !

    All these programs usually are

True they did buy it from an isreali company and it is still in its infancy but from what ive seen of it, it looks like a good product...

Its being marketed as 'a scaled down version' of other SAP products for SMEs...

MICROS - touchscreen tills you'll have seen in pubs everywhere. Does POS, stock, financials, cost-of-sale setup, tax, employee monitoring, the works.
    Best system I've seen. ->

many thanks for your help folks. I

m gona use FFinventory pro for my own bits and pieces at home. Its a nifty piece of software!

Take 5 cose us about 7k, so we are going to try to stick with it and start from scratch. Since it perished on me a couple of nights ago I thought it would be a good idea to look at the alternatives.

Maybe next year I can move to a "Proper" system!

BTW, any Take 5 experts out there? I'd be interested in hiring someone for a couple of days to help us get the most out of the system.

PM me if you know sombody!
