Volvo S40 Ad on TV

I've seen the Volvo S40 ad on Tv a couple of times where 32 people in a small village in Sweden purchased Volvo S40's on the same day. It's an interesting ad but it does appear to be bull****. I found this site of the guy who was hired to do the interviews and here's his own cut which has a lot of inconsistencies in the things that the interviewees were saying. It's just another way to market a product. Same way films like The Blair Witch Project and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre pretended to be real so they could sell it to people!

The fact that it is an ad paid for by people whose sole purpose in life is to flog box-shaped cars is probably the first clue to it's authenticity.:D

I *heard* this ad about 5 times before actually seeing it (using computer, tv on at the same time). Thought it sounded good in a sort of mysterious x-files sort of way.

But then I saw it for the first time tonight and was disappointed the visuals didn't live up to the audio...

Too true. For God's sake, the link to the rebuttal site comes in a pop up on the Volvo page! If Volvo really wanted to pull the wool over peoples eyes you can be sure the director would be in on it. And there is no way he'd write what he did, calling it inconsistent. Not that he would be sued over what he said, he'd be sued over using the file footage, which belongs to Volvo, to back up his points.

It is a very good way to market the car though. Just look at us all talking about it now!:eek:

The idea is to get people talking about it. its very original. Thats the reason they give you the site of the 'rebuttal' . So some sort of controversy is created. and people wonder what the fiuck is going on, and so they talk, and tallk, and post messages on bulliten boards.............

hit the nail on the head there. the whole point is to make people talk. it's great. no one got that it was a spoof even when they're talking to a volvo owner and a red bmw drives by..
