    Yup.

Running on the Hansol 19" CRT here and I must say very pleased with it. It uses Samsung insides, hence the reason both of them use the Dynaflat screens.

is 25ms response time not kinda slow for a tft ?

    Everything .... literally.

A good bit of gaming, too much web surfing, lots of late night programming etc... Ive done it all, or at least vast majority. Had the monitor for about 8months to a year now. No problems with it at all.

Surely theres no way you could compare a crt with a tft ?

25ms is standard for 19" monitors at the moment really, <=16ms can only be found on 17" monitors really.

I have heard that the Dell 19" LCD is 16ms response but I've never seen any numbers that would prove it.

for gaming you need a sub 20ms tft

    I have a h711 (19") and two H530's (15") .. and they're fine.

The good .. nice, crisp & good contrast. (I use them at about 30% brightness in daylit enviornment). Hansol will courier a replacement the following morning if something's up.

The bad.. 25ms is fine for me, but may not be if you're doing video. The only game I play is UT (if you could call me getting my brains blasted within a couple of seconds of being spawned "playing"), and I don't notice any lag/shadowing/performance issues. I do notice it a small bit for fast motion video .. but only a small bit and I am a PITA perfectionist.

I have one (blue) stuck pixel on a 15".. and that was a replacement monitor for a "chance-my-arm-with-Hansol-support-in-getting-a-replacement-monitor" for two dead pixels (not adjacent), so that was a bit dissapointing, but it only bothers me when I let it.. 1 pixel isn't too bad!!

All 3 are analouge of reasonably decent graphics cards.

One other slight niggly thing is that 1 in 30-50 times (verrrry rough estimate there!) is if I restart the computer (leaving monitors switched on during shutdown/POST/restart) when windows GUI starts I get a screwed (tm) display on one of the monitors and I have to turn it off and back on again. I have a feeling, though, that its my hardware rather than the monitors themselves, as it never happens the primary monitor (and I've swapped them around to try)

Overall, though, I'm pleased .. and they get a fair bit of usage. The next day replacement on the warranty is impressive too .. no quibbling .. no "try this and that and ring us back" nonsense.

Maybe that's why I'm getting hammered!! I play windowed and full screen UT2003/4 at 1024x768 32bit and never noticed any shadowing or bad stuff.

I play quite alot of CS/farcry/Deus Ex on my 17" Prophetview TFT with a 25ms Response, ive never had any problems playing, i also have a 19" CRT that i sometimes play on and there is veryl little difference (CRT is slightly beter at blacks)

Ive played a few games on a 19" TFT, they were work models and id say they were about as bad as you could get for gaming but the sheer size was savage!

Nice one Winters & cg, I reckon I'll go for it based on your feedback. The response time doesn't really worry that much because I don't game and as long as it handles flesh tones well I should be fine on the video front. :)

The dead pixel thing has always bothered me about TFT, I'm horrendously anal about things like that. Fingers crossed!

    I have a 22" CRT I'm replacing with the 19" TFT if you're interested. :)

No im in the middle of a "must get out of debt" phase (again) so i have to keep expenses to a min, I think id go for a 19" TFT though, i find it hard enough to use the CRT at home, the bulk of beige is just horrible

Let us know how you get on with it when you get it?

Ah, I thought you were talking about the size of CRT monitors! This thing is enormous, but it's a beautiful monitor.

Yeah, I'll post here when I've run the Hansol for a few weeks. Buying two Hansols actually, a 19" TFT and a 17" CRT for the mammy.

    Bullplop!

I have an 18" TFT with a claimed 30ms response time running off the DVI of a 9700pro and anything I play is fine on it, UT2k4, Far Cry, BF Vietnam, MOHAA, you name it.
I think a lot of people make the mistake of comparing TFT response time to CRT refresh rates. The TFT will only update pixels that have changed, whereas the CRT needs to constantly refresh the entire screen.
Watching movies is the only occasional issue, where you may have an entire screen of changing scenery panning accross. Then some blurring is evident. This is more than made up for by the rich vivid colour and the obvious space saving.

i'm going to be in the market for a 17inch tft soon and i'm dreading it, i had trying to wade through the masses of reviews and trying to pick the best one i just want someone to tell me this is the best monitor you can by for X amount and this is the best you can get for Y amount.

i'll also be incredibly anal about dead pixels

When i bought my Prophetview i actually made the guy in the shop take it out of the box in the shop and set it up to check for dead pixels, he was not happy.......... that was almost 2 years ago and its still perfect.

I would freak if i got a dead pixel on a 600 Euro TFT, you can send it back because of the distance selling act about buying online.......

    Then order another one!

thats a great idea i think, screw em in the store i'd need to know exactly what i was looking for dead pixel wise before i went in. i was thinking of buying it online but if it wasn't that much dearer it would be worth it to try before i buy to see a game on it and to look for dead pixels, i shouldn't be too picky though the mother is giving me 500euro towards it

    data

Data - I just got a 17" ViewSonic VP171S and I'd highly recommend it, it's a bit expensive, but well worth it. If you don't need it straight away, Amazon.co.uk have a decent price for it, but it comes with a 4-6 week lead time. I got mine from Overclockers.co.uk, but tbh, I wouldn't recommend them.

There is a make that will replace the TFT if theres a dead pixel, and i cant for the life of me remember what it is....... mabye hitachi im not sure but it sounds excellent.

I have one dead pixel on my 19" LCD , its a f*ckin paint when watching movies mainly on dark scenes. Its fine for gaming i wouldnt notice it and generally when using it i never notice it.

As for responce times, its a 25ms rate and i find it perfect for gaming but i do notice it when an entire screen is moving in a DVD or Divx, but other than that im pretty happy cause its huge :) .

Going into a shop and checking your screen before hand is a good idea, or get one with a dead pixel policy........

i have 1 dead pixel on my 17" benQ tft, i was wondering if i could return it? bought it at christmas from overclockers.co.uk

atleast i think its a dead pixel, just a lil red tiny pixel size spot? :(

i dont notice it at all unless there is a white background but that is besides the point, my computer is on alot, pretty much all the time except when im at work so it is heavily used but thats no reason for it to go so soon surely?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,754 ✭✭✭Big Chief

phoned overclockers, i was informed that if you get 5 dead pixels (the minimum) then the company will rma it (not overclockers as the warranty you get is through the company themselfs) for me this would be benQ, so if i get 5 dead pixels, benQ consider it as a fault and replace it.

any less than that is not considered a fault :dunno:

i had a lot of trouble with an LCD that i got from overclockers. read my thread here. basically i got an LG with a dead pixel that i wanted to return. Since the pixel rule stated i needed more to allow me to RMA it I decided to return it under the Distance Sales Regulations (DSR) on the grounds that I had changed my mind and didn't want it (cooling off period).

After posting on hexus i PM'd one of the users who had given a lot of advice. turned out he used to work for overclockers. he informed me that it was quite likely they had been reading the thread! sure enough i got an email from one of the managers after i had returned the screen to say he knew why i was sending it back and was tempted to return it to me (he said he had saw the thread). aghhh! in the end it was resolved but cost me a good few euro in delivery charges etc. i feel i probably got a favourable outcome due to publicity of the thread.

the moral of the story is view the screen yourself or get a pixel test before you buy.
