Thats a terrible picture for compearing and is very misleading showing no hull detail etc

Cleary showing the similirtys in top hull design wepions pod design/placment Naccels connector placement of cargo bays engine's nav delfetor etc

I wouldent say they are the same or that they NX was coped from akira

actually, the enterprise looks like the akira upside down tbh , with a smaller secondary hull.

tbh most of the federation ships look lame, except for the defiant that looks class.

The klingon, jem'hadar and borg ships look way cooler.

Hell, babylon 5 ships look nicer than most federation ships...

I think perhaps they designed the NX so that it can be anounced that one day the akira actually coped a age old design.

Like the way in All good things beverlys medical ship was a copy of the pegasus (i cat remember the class name but one of the very earley ships had a spherculal instead of a scaucer.

I think most Starfleet vessels are pretty similiar, how many ways can u stick a plate on to 2 sticks and change it round.

The Hornet Class.

The HORNET CLASS starship is a heavily armoured, overpowered warship. (although Starfleet prefer the designation 'Escort').
This design is one of the most powerfull Starships ever created by Starfleet.
It is extremly fast, agile, has enough weaponry to take out a large DOMINION BATTLESHIP, and due to its Xentronium armour, it can take several hits from a proton torpedo even with minimal sheilds.

I'd be interested in seeing who they can explain the backwards evolution from the Enterprise series design to the TOS design. Maybe some tongue in cheek answer similar to the TOS Klingons explanation..

yeah i was thinking about that last night

the hornet class though never heard of it, i presume its one of these non-canon ships people like to put together, tbh it just looks like a defiant variation

This seems to be some fans answer to all akira - Rip - off - a - prize (hehe can ban me now) problems.....Look at the Ambasador and the Galaxy class they both look the same BUT they both look a fudge load different at the same time.Now look at the Akira class and Nx class their the same ship same hull details same top hull same weapions pod same warp naccel conntectors same nav delftor etc etc etc.

Fans are geting as unimagtive as the starship designer's tbh :rolleyes:

Conny class - Excelsoior class - Ambasadour class - Galaxy class - Sovy class......Yep they all look the same dont they :rolleyes: no they dont they all have the same general layout but for the most part they are a lot LOT different

I always thought when the Akira class was shown in First Contact that it looked liked an advancement on the Miranda Class / USS Reliant from ST II: Wrath of Khan.

I guess what I don't understand with regard to the 'new' Enterprise design, is why there's such a problem that it looks somewhat similar to another design, I mean it's all Starfleet. As people have mentioned, up until the Defiant, there was a standard saucer section & 2 nacelles design that were played with to create pratically all the ST ships.

tbh I think that the 'new' Enterprise is lazy in that, the designers made a huge effort to do something different with the Defiant & even with Voyager. Fair enough the series isn't set in the future, and the ship shouldn't look too advanced versus TOS ships, but that didn't really stop them making it look more advanced, so why not go all out & just make it a little more creative if they were gonna make it look advanced anyway?
They could've done something a little more imaginative. In saying that, I don't really have much of a problem in how the Enterprise looks but it's easily the least imaginative main vessel in a ST series.

I seen a design of the Nx class before the akira-rip off design was picked MY GOD it was the sexyist ship i have ever seen in star trek.They didnt pick it ironicly because it looked like the Conny class uss enterprise ...But tbh it was different enough to work very little was the same other than the general layout unlike the current Nx ship which looks way to much like the akira down to hull details.

Also lados the Defiant isnt that different its still a hull and 2 warp naccels design you just cant see the glowing part of the naccels under the armoured hull and from the top its a pritty ugly ship tbh.

Look honestly the nx class haveing the general layout of the Akira ISNT a big deal the galaxy class has a layout like the ambasadour class.But the problem is that down to the very hull details ( superchargers on the top of the hull..Nav delfector nook placement of the bridge on a rised platform weapions pod and general lay out of the rear of the ship ) the 2 ships are all but the same which is very very lazy.

Yes, it's still the basic elements, but the design was at least an attempt to present them in a different way.

Is there anywhere online that has pics of the original NX class, I'd like to see it!

How is a longer non cannon (and by the looks of it a Bridge commander mod) version of the defiant with venture class naccels styleing the "best ship ever" .

More power than a dominion battleship ?? so its over 3 times the power of a galaxy class maybe even 6 times if your going to beat a Dominion battleship and this makes it the best ship ever eh ??????? Thats a uber ship the dominion are more advanhed than the federation and you HONESTLY think the feds can bang out a ship 30 or so times smaller than a dominion battleship but powerful enough to destory it.And wtf is Xentronium armour im amazed the designer of that "ship" didnt just stick voyagers hull armour a few dozen transphasic torpedos launchers scimitars cloak and borg transwarp on it just for more uberness .....Talk about a stupid ship

well then, the Achilles class was in that horrible game ST : DS9 thing. Rated as less powerful than the Galaxy but actually beats the crap out of everything up to titan class...

look most of these classes of ships don't even exist so the "it can destroy the whole universe comments" don't hold sway with me and they are somewhat irrelevant to this discussion.

with regards to the defiant i think its fairly massively different from most other starfleet ships yes its still a hull and two warp nacelles design but most ships are a hull and two nacelles design even outside the federation this design is all over the place.

what seperates the defiant from the majority of the other starfleet ships is the lack of a primary and secondary hull. this is the main design feature of a starfleet ship with the nacelles on the secondary hull. therein the difference lies
