Abit Flash menu question

Ok I used Abit flash menu to update my BIOS. I know this can be risky but everything went fine. I did it in the hope that the newer BIOS would detect my RAM as 500mhz because it's been detecting it as 400mhz since I got the p.c.

After update I noticed no difference in the BIOS though. Do I have to reset the CMOS before the changes take place?

Ya reset the CMOS. Correct me if im wrong but If ya dont have the FSB @ 250MHz the RAM wont be at 500MHz:confused:

Ya but I read some BIOS's let you set the RAM fsb independant of the processor. I'm hoping the update let me do this. Overclocking is not going well for me at all.

Maybe I got a **** processor because she won't stay stable, not even at 3.5.

what Board do you have? mine detects the ram as 400mhz But it still runs at 390 due to fBs as Dempsey said, "If ya dont have the FSB @ 250MHz the RAM wont be at 500MHz"

I think Dempsy might be right on this. Your processor is 800mhz and your ram is 500mhz, Doesn't the bios sync the speeds to start off with, so if you tweak the ratios you'll get you're 500mhz out of the ram but it may not show up on the bios screen. I don't know as much about ratios so perhaps someone else could help ya more. I think there was a thread somewhere about overclocking and the ratios to get the most outa it somewhere in technology. I'll take a lookie :)

Ya but currently the only ratios I have are 1.1, 5.4 and 3.2. All make the RAM slower. Hope the update has a lot more options.

Unfortunately, you can't get the 4:5 option with 800Mhz cpus (on any mobo I know of). Only the 400Mhz and 533Mhz cpus allow a 4:5 divider since they run at 100 and 133fsb
