Avril Lavinealikes at the central bank... AAAHHHH!!!!

ok here we go with rant....

why god oh why do all the pubescent goths and avril lavinealikes decide to descend every weekend to the central bank and make the place look like some sort of goth shrine/skateboard arena.... and think they are cool by drinking beer in public...

it has to be the most f**king annoying thing when you are walking through there on a saturday or sunday...

Why there? Is there some sort of goth magnet, that is the central bank? Does the central bank turn into a goth church/niteclub/goth devil worshipping type establishment at the weekends?

The funniest thing i saw there was a 'no skateboarding' sign crossed out by a spraycan and 'cops are scum' was sprayed all over one of those bench things....
Why do they think they are scum? For doing their job? emmhh... one wonders...

    Im intrigued... and p1ssed off...

Has anyone else noticed this and what do you think....

And before this gets into a flame war about hating goths and the like... i dont hate goths.. i have a few friends from home who like that type of music and that type of dress and they are very nice people... they are a bit older though...

my point as about the "young" goths/avril lavinealikes that hang around there... why?

The short answer is because they always have. I grew up in Dublin, and was a teenager in the early eighties - and we hung out there too. Tis a tradition ;)

So they can all be "individual", in the same way, together.

Avril Lavigne is on the top of my death list.

Firstly, I think they are cute (in the, awww look at the little kiddies kind of way.)

    ...

They have to hang out somewhere. Because they want attention (why else are they goths?) it's gotta be somewhere very visible, and because there's a lot of them, they need a lot of space.

And it has to be central.

    And, possibly, somewhere quite trendy.

So I guess the central bank is a good choice?

I used to hang around there in my younger days and can't really see what the problem is. They hang around there because they've nothing else to do, they're no trouble unlike most other kids hanging around the streets and they're not doing anyone any harm. I'd much rather have to walk past or deal with 100 goth kids than five scangers.

thats fair enough... but did you and your friends descend in droves in the same way that they do and cause a public disturbance... i mean you can hardly walk past the place anymore...

They're so twee and cute. Awww bless their little black cotton socks.

And at least they tend not to start aggro etc too! Go little Avrils, mope your little black empty hearts out, then skateboard across the scarred grey surface of our society.

Also, rollerblading goths are the funniest thing ever!

nothing else to do? Surely they should have something to do? Do each others makeup and stuff? Whatever goths do?

As I said in the original post.. I agree that most of them are harmless and its better than skanger congrigations...

    any idea how it started?

i've always wondered about this myself, my sister never wore makeup so i had no ones to rob,

a male at the central bank with no makeup i'd have felt naked :D

Kids are going to go through a rebellious stage at one stage or other. The fact that they do so in a considerate manner (when's the last time you got hassle from a goth) makes me happy.

It's the councillors who go and ban skateboarding etc. that I see as scum. So you don't like the look of goths, and don't want them gathering in places and spending their day enjoying a sport of sorts, would you rather they donned tracksuits and baseball caps and went around hassling people for cigarettes?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,372 ✭✭✭Kone

Aw they're just kiddies, let them play their games :D

My favourite ever sighting around the Central Bank area was a little goth guy (about 11 or 12yo I would think) with a super gelled mohican, I just wanted to pick him up and use him as a pitch fork! (and I probably could have!)

    :D

Well probably because they just want to **** you off. It's like those flash appearances of people who plan large meets over the internet. They just appear. Well they hear you're going out that day and just appear there.

They're just kids. Everybody here saying they're being individual in their conformity. Maybe they just like the style. Do you stand outside wall street watching all of the people in italian suits and talk about how they're all looking to be individuals while conforming with the people around them?

Wow you wear jeans - REBEL!

Too many people around here on high horses.

what makes me laugh the most is seeing the muppets trying to skate/rollerblade on cobblestone....

as for the sitting around the bank, its abit annoying, but better than scumbags, and its abit of a laugh too... they dont bother me that much tho

(they also started to congregate outside Superquinn in Finglas recently... very funny)

ok enough of the early 90's dance lads....

wouldnt it be funny though if a bunch of ravers tried to muscle in on their "territory"... i wonder what would happen....

im all for people listening to whatever music they like and dressing whatever way they like... but why do they have to display this every weekend in the same place at the same time?

Is there any of these avril lavinealikes on boards? your views would be interesting?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,126 ✭✭✭][cEMAN**

Hey third how do you know it's the same place at the same time every week? Does that mean you're there as well?

Maybe you should have some consideration for them. Maybe they're thinking "Oi see that fella over there? He comes here every week at the same time and just stares at us. Fncking freak!"

look, they're mostly teenagers.. who just want to be away frm their parents and their 'uncool' home. so they go into town to hang out, and the central bank is right in the middle of everything and it's got a somewhat useable skating area... so they seem to think.

where else are they gona go?

and tbh ravers would either be too scagged to be outside, or they'd be so loved up they'd start partying with the skaters :)

well i live in town and you cannot miss them.. i leave my place to walk into town at the weekends and i have to go past it... simple really..

I respect that people have different outlooks on life and live differently, but when it comes to the point that you actually have to leave the footpath and walk on the road to walk past them it starts to become a public safety issue.. i.e. getting smacked by a bus....

    nice quote though...

Ah now you didn't say that in your original post. Now if they're just there and though in full public view but not hurting anyone that's fine. But if they're causing a blockage in general public traffic then that would bug me.

Most of the skaters here just go to one of the local supermarket carparks in the evening when all of the cars are gone. They have loads of open space and can either use the benches there to do tricks on, or setup their own place.

I also just noticed last night when I was down there, that the local sports complex lets the kids go in there with a whole skating arena setup. I hadn't been there in years so didn't know. I think that's great - not that they're out of the way, but that someone's actually thinking of them and giving them facilities.

Plus up with Avril Lavigne, down with fishnet stockings.

it's pretty obvious what would happen

all the goth's would run like little girls with avril lavinge cd covers and skateboards dropped everywhere in the panic, forget they're hard rebelious teenagers who like the idea of slitting the arms off themselves.

and run home crying to mammy screaming about how they were bullied at the bank while changing one of daddys big cheques.

(this is before they change into their normal boring clothes)

mammy doesn't like leather black pants with the arse cut out of them ye see.
