Drinking places in Carlow?

Around twenty of us lads are heading down to Carlow in two weeks for a stag weekend of drink, drugs and whatever else we can get our hands on.

Just wondering if anyone from Carlow could recommend any pubs for all-day drinking
and any clubs for the rest of the time?

    Cheers!

I haven't been there since my student days but for all-day drinking I'd say...

Scraggs Alley, Tullow Street. Student-type bar.
    Tully's Bar, Tullow Street.
    Dinn Rí

Teach Dolmain, maybe a bit quite for what you're doing though.

Pretty sure that Dinn Rí has the biggest (best?) nightclub in town.

While I know that in the past 5 years there has been a LOT of new pubs opened in the town I don't think very many would be the drink & drugs type, mostly beiong a little more upmarket than others.

ah I was only kidding about the drugs. well, mostly anyway!

That's a few to go alongs with, Teach Dolmain sounds like it'll do for breakfast pints.

    Thanks Ponster!

Tullys is a good pub, it's usually fairly lively. I've been in Scraggs a few times but that was a while ago, don't know what it's like now.

if it's a sunny day, the beergarden of Dinn Ri is a great place to chill out..
Nancy Whiskeys ia a Nice new pub but can attract a few dodgy ppl
If Foundry (Dinn Ri) is full the new 'Edge nightclub' is an alternative.
Cosmo Browns is quite good too just across the road from Dinn Ri..

my kinda night in carlow would be dinn ri beer garden as the gentleman above said depending on whether, then onto scraggs for a few late afternoon ones and then to tullys for the night.. its great in there, prob my fav carlow pub..

dinn ri is ok, but the nightclub is great cos sat night they have bands in the tower and you have access to both..

have good night.. stay out of supermacs afterwards though;)

Cosmo Browns, upstairs is very small.

I'd skip Carlow and head to kilkenny, much better, btw I live in Carlow

Yeah Kilkenny was the first one suggested but we thought it would be more difficult for us all to get into the same place. plus we'd all be in separate B&B's and it would get messy.
There's a golf club/hotel in Tullow that has holiday homes separate to the hotel so we've booked a few of them.
We can go stone mad without fear of reprisal there.

OMG you serious, thats Mount Wolseley, I live within a mile of that place, you won't go too mad there, it's a bit of a dive, if your heading out tullow for 1 first go down the down and at the top of the town after BOI you'l see the Tara Arms probably the best spot to go for a few pints, town is very quite exceot sat night, you'l want to get ataxi early sat night to get to carlow and make sure you book a return taxi.

Those excuses for taxi drivers don't like driving to Tullow on a sat night, they make more money on town runs.!

Need any more info let me know

Ah we won't be drinking there. Just crashing between the hours of 0400 and 1100 so I don't really mind what the hotel itself is like!
Thanks for the info about Saturday night and the Tara Arms, we may just go to the Tara Arms on Friday and get monkeydrunk and then head into town on Sat.
How far is tullow from The town centre by the way?

Buzz's bar is usually decent for live bands and the like in Carlow too. I like teach dolmain myself, but its more of a quiet pint kind of place. Scragg's is where to go if you like crap pop music and nowhere to sit! Ah its not too bad, real student pub though. Tully's Bar is better though, in my opinion.
Going to Kilkenny isn't a bad idea either. Loads of pubs and a few clubs to be seen. There's lots of B+B's and a few hotels but you won't get rooms if you're around anytime near the Cat Laughs weekend.

Seeing as there's some Carlow folk on this thread....

When I was a student there (1992-1996) I remember before Dinn Ri we used go the The Seven Oaks and again before that we used go to a disco out the Kilkenny road in a hotel about 3 miles on the right-hand side.

The deal was that you and 3 others got a taxi, paid £1 each and then only had to pay £1 to get into the 'disco' (hall with white plastic garden chairs).

Any idea what the name of the place was???

I think Carlow is a great spot to go out in!!

Dinn Ri is the best place to end up in on a Saturday night, the live band in the Tower are usually brilliant and it gets a fairly decent crowd :)

Hope ye guys enjoy your stag night, I've a feeling that Tullow will never be the same again - which isn't necessarily a bad thing :)

Hey irish1, you've probably met my cousins from Melbourne! My mother grew up on Bridge Street and my uncle rebuilt the house there about 5 years ago. One of my cousin's was living there until very recently and her younger sisters seemed to get through half the men in Tullow every time they came over!

I refuse to believe that Tullow isn't that small :P

See, knew that Tullow was that small! Still, tempted to retire down there given the price of a pint compared to up here in Dublin!

Well if the dubs keep moving down at the current rate, I'm sure the Bar owners will be only to happy to match the big smoke prices.
