    Hey everybody,

My framerate never goes above 60fps and I was just wondering if I could change this?

I have a 9800 pro and can easily go above but i do not know how to make it go above it.

Go into display options. Click the settings tab, then go advanced.

Then you should have a load of tabs. Go into the "Displays" one, and you shall see pictures of a montior, a LCD, a TV etc.

Select the montior one by clicking the tab that says monitor above the picture.

Turn off "Use DDC info" and set your maximum refresh rate and max resolution. Mine is 1600x1200, and 120hz, then apply.

Also type dxdiag in run, and when it appears, select the "more help" tab. Select the "override" option, and set it to 120hz or whatever your monitor supports.

Apply all that and then get the ati "reforce" tool to set the different refresh's for each of the resolutions. Make sure you set the proper ones or you could **** it up and need to restart in safe mode.

Make sure you do this in order, or you might mess it up, it sometimes works with just the reforce tool, but not always.

Does not exist in my setting for some reason. Could be because I have a tft???

Anyway, I used reforce so it shud be ok from now on.

    Which is better? 1280 * 1024 at 75hz or 1024 * 768 at 85hz?

    Cheers for help guys.

whatever the native rez of your tft is, probly 1280x1024 seeing as you have the option for it.

Have you installed the ATI Control Panel? (it's a seperate download from the drivers). That should make all the tabs appear in display options.

Whats the point? You won't notice the increase in framerates beyond about 40FPS, and above 60 theres not a hope the human eye can really notice the difference.

All you are likely to do is introduce tearing effects, such as what happened a week or two ago here with someone who had a tft, i think.

YOu might as well just leave Vsync on, and enjoy the smoothness at 60fps.

LOL that was me with the tearing a couple of weeks ago. Thats true. I am just so curious at times, that is my problem.

Well, just thinking a bit more about what you want... if you increase the refresh rate on your TFT to 72, or 85, then you can safely get more than 60fps. Just leave Vsync on, and most games will then give up 72/85 fps, depending on the setting you choose.

Well I'd never play a game in 60hz, kills my eyes.

Yes a TFT is pretty useless for upping the refresh rate, so you might as well leave it. But in a large CRT, 120hz @1024 (19 inch)

When playing games you can notice a huge difference...

You can notice a monitor refresh rate a hell of a lot more than a game refresh rate.

I think everyone here would agree that movies are very fluid. Did you know they are only 25fps?

Personally, so long as my game doesn't drop below 40fps, i'm more than happy, and its plenty fluid for me. My monitor refresh rate is 85hz, and i generally get between 60 and 85fps in CS, which is perfect. Smooth as glass.

Mutant_Fruit is right, even if your TFT had the response time to be able to show more than 60fps clearly, you wouldn't notice it.

Your eyes do notice it, try playing a game at 60 fps, and at 60hz. Then at 120hz. That difference is noticable. Your eyes dont feel strained from staring at a 60hz monitor all day.

Anyway, you want to play at a high refresh rate as possible, and either get the fps to match it, or be divisible. eg 120hz/2 = 60fps. Not only does this reduce strain on the eye, it also prevents tearing.

Oh an in CS you want 100fps, due to the physics changes at different fps's.

TFT's just aren't great for games yet.

Problems sorted. Thanks for all the advice.

PS: My tft is perfect for games. :D

the 60hz refresh on tfts isnt the same as on crts, and tfts are much softer on eyes than any crt.
