Mam dropped her phone into water. What to do?

My mam just dropped her Siemens C60 into a basin of water. She uses the phone a lot, it's a pay as you go with O2 that's about 4 months old (bought on New Years Eve)... is there any sort of replacement service that O2 offer or anything like that? For now I've just taken the phone apart (it turned itself off a couple of seconds after it was out of the water) and left it in the hot press. Any ideas?

Leave it in the hotpress for a few days and see how it goes. Did the trick with a phone of mine.

Try leaving it in the hot press disassembled for a few days.
Same thing happened my mums nokia and it was a bit buggy after the days in the hotpress but runs perfectly now.
How long was it in the water?

It was only in for about 3 seconds... tops. It was on the window sill above the kitchen basin and it started vibrating 'cos someone was ringing her and she was about to answer it when it vibrated right into the water. We'll see how it goes. Thanks a lot.

Afaik, the voltage/current used in mobile phones isn't exactly massive, so the chance of a short circuit (probably why it turned itself off) doing serious damage may be lessened.

I could be wrong though. :)

    Two situations:

    1. My g/f drops phone into toilet bowl. Retreives immediately, is wet and won't work.
    2. I forget to take the phone out of my pocket, stick on 40 degrees, "easy care" cycle in the washing machine.

My girlfriends dried out using the hotpress method and worked perfectly well for some time after.

    Mine didnt.

What time was it purchased on New Years eve.

    Who was ringing her?

These details are vital in diagnosing what should be done.

i dropped mine in the toilet for a couple of seconds tops, it never worked again..

then again i also put it under one of those hand dryer things to to and "dry it out"

might have fried a couple of things perhaps not sure...

anyway waited for condensation to get out of the screen part and the o2 shop gave me a replacement for it as i had bought it less than the 28 days beforehand specified on the receipt :)

If it's insured they'll probably replace it, if not, you'll have to stick with the hotpress/hairdryer method.
I put my philips azalis through the washing machine, a few days by a radiator and a few turns wwith the hairdryer and it worked again, but with a decreased battery capacity. The typhoon it went through a year later killed it utterly though...:(

Official repair center's wont touch it once they know its water damaged. unofficial repair centers often have a service to fix it (€30-€60)

dismatle the phone and leave it wrapped in a towel in the hot press for over a week, then try it, but normally they are fúcked.

Most phone shops do an insurance for 3 years for about €50? well worth it!

I dropped mine into a puddle about nine months ago. Wouldn't work. Dried it with a hair drier for half an hour. It's worked fine since.

Siemens are pretty terrible when it comes to water damage. Nokias seem to be much more durable. I know at least three people with the C60 who suffered water damage and the phone never worked again. Whereas, I've dropped my Nokias into puddles, toilets (!! once) and after a spell in the hot press/radiator they've been fine.

I dropped my nokia 3510i into my pint on paddys day (stupid i know but i was pissed) after using the hotpress method it now works fine, although the screens a bit water damaged and the 5 button can be a tempremental c**t

I dropped my Nokia 3510i in to the toilet a few months ago. I got it out almost straight away, and I tried drying it off, but it messed it up when I tried to use it. So I disassembled it, patted it down loads with tissue, and left it to dry on my windowsill (also had to use some air freshener on it!). 6 hours later and it worked grand, haven't had a problem with it since (except this week, when if I press the screen hard enough, it switches off, but that's no problem, I don't usually press the screen hard).

Probably too late to offer any phone-saving advice now, though.
