yes, you will prob need to flash the firmware, stick your dvd drive name into google to see is multiregion firmware available. BE CAREFUL.
you may need to update the software on your pc as well but i dont know much about that.

If your DVD drive is on this site, you can flash it with a floppy disk, making it region free forever. This applies to both DVD-ROMs and movies. Worked for me.

graphics are good, just the text itself
use of capitals, where versus were, use of apostrophes, capitalisation, etc etc
don't want to be pedantic but it looks kind of unprofessional
i know i'm not great for it myself

'eats shoots and leaves' would be worth a look, or if you have any brothers or sisters at school borrow their grammar book and/or get them to read over it.

Civilian_Target, is it possible to do as you suggest if your PC doesn't have a floppy drive? I was thinking of making a boot CD but that probably won't work either if the only optical drive is the DVDR which you want to flash!

tuxx I was giving some advice about his website which he links to in his first mail. It is irrelevant to the main thread about dvdrs so just ignore it.

Take a look here for a guide to unlocking. http://www.doom9.org/rpc1.htm

There are also region checks in windows and player software to be bypassed, look here for info. http://forum.rpc1.org/viewtopic.php?t=239

updating firmware is dangerous, power failure or a bad download will make your dvd rom a paper weight -but what the hell enjoy the fear of watching the flash progress

    as for school irrelevence

The comma after "site" should be a fullstop also, otherwise the "The" should have small t.

RE: flashing the drive if you don't have a floppy.
plonk the .bin on your C:\ root directory.
Reboot into command-prompt-only mode (Win2K) or DOS (Win9x) and execute the flasher program with the binary file.
Tbh, the firmware for drives are generally alot smaller than those for BIOSs and so as you're writing for a shorter period of time (dependent on the ROM technology used in the drive/board etc. of course) the risk is lower.
Also, afaik alot of newer drives can be recovered from failed firmware flashes.

Yeah, most Pioneer DVD writers have a seperate section of the firmware that will kick in if the main firmware gets trashed in a failed flash, allowing it to be flashed again.

You could always get DVD region free ....... http://www.dvdidle.com/dvd-region-free.htm and use it when you upgrade your PC or on your other PC's. Its brilliant, works in the backround and no risk involved.

Price is a little mad since you can get another drive for that!!
