    Hey,

I have a buddy who is South African who has lived in Ireland on and off for the last four years. He has not done the leaving cert or an equivalent. Is it possible for him to go to a college of further education where he can do a basic one year course in business or computers or something and then get a fetac certificate and progress on? Or is it only open to EU citizens do you know? Also, is FAS open to non-eu members?

*I am aware of the education board but AH wil get more hits and this is a pretty urgent question.

    Cheers in advance
    :)

As far as I know, non-EU citizens can attend colleges in Ireland but they must pay full fees.

    Have a look at these:

    Application Procedures and Entrance Requirements

Moving to Ireland for Third level Education

Angled more at unis and intitutes of technology so might not be exactly what you're looking for. Worth poking around on Oasis though.

As far as I know full-time FAS course eligibility is based on being unemployed. If he's a non-EU national he won't be able to stay here and be unemployed, hence he won't be eligible to attend any full-time FAS courses.

It is probably possible for them to attend FÁS courses, they would just have to pay the fees.

Yes it is possible, but their fees would not be government-subsidised like EU citizens. Some guys from India that I worked with last summer inquired about attending university (University of Limerick) and were told that it would cost something like E18,000 per year.
