I decided to break out the DVD of Highlander last night, the original with Lambert and Connery and although it was rather bad I quite like the story. Anybody seen the sequels and know what they are like? Maybe someone could give us a run down on what happens to McLeod and save me the pain of Lambert's accent.

How did anyone cast him as a Scot and Sean Connery as an Egyptian!!!!

    STOP!!!

Do *NOT* go near the sequals!!!

Enjoy the first film for what it is, and by god, don't tarnish the film by even glancing at the sequals!

I concur; while the first film is truly great (and caused me to watch a lot of bad Russell Mulcahy movies), the second one is up there as one of the worst sequels of all time. Avoid like several plagues.
The third is essentially an inferior remake of the first. Watch if you must; it wisely ignores the second.

In the second one mcloed is an old man, wife dead, living in a cyperpunk world with the ozone depleted. He as a great scientist develops a red shield that goes over the earth to block out harmful rays. Sceen switches to desert alien world (???) bad guy says one is left send two fly guys to kill mcleod. They blow him up but with the present of other immortals mcloed becomes an immortal so the explosion regenerates him. In the end he discovers that the ozone has grown back but the scientist aren't telling anyone so they can make money. The bad guy crosses over to this world takes over the big company. Mcloed joins resistance to blow up red shiels, set earth free blah blah. Succeeds, kills bad guy yea!

    terrible absouloute drivel
    third one
is set before the second movie mcloed has a son bad guy frozen in ice has killed immortals and gotten their "special" powers including creating illusions goes after mcloeds son to draw him out. They fight mcloeds sword breaks so runs away flash back to acient japan, old dude make best swords ever using special ore and technique bad guy kills old dude mcloed runs, back to the present mcloead steals special ore from museum to remake sword defeats bad guy.

even worse than the second one.

    It does include Lambert, actually.

    But it's incredibly dross.
They even had Donnie Yen in it, and just killed him off, he barely got to a thing!? WTF?
    Pure tripe.

Theres a fourth sequel on the way. Its about the oldest immortal, cant think of his name, hes in the tv series. If you want to see more Highlander then buy the tv sereies. Im working my way through seasons 1 to 4.

Lambert was in the forth?! What was the story line? Maybe I am mixing up the tv movie with an actual forth one.

Sorry about the three separate posts sometimes I type faster than think.

Wasn't the fourth one the one where they tried to blend the tv series continuity into the film continuity (by including a horrible bit to dow ith french battlefields and dead people waking up, as I recall) and then had the duncan versus connor thing? Awful, awful stuff. Still not quite on a par with the third one and its scene in which someone is cut in half and their legs run around of their own volition while the top half just floats about nonchalantly....

Personally, I say enjoy the first film for what it is and maybe enjoy the TV show as a totally separate thing. I enjoyed the show, but a lot of fans of the film thought it was dire, from what I heard...
