Could this be related to lifting of licence restrictions on 50Mhz .. 52MHz transmissions by Wireless Experimenters (This is part of old Band I)?

Band I is offically "on air" no longer a TV band. So perhaps all Irish cable has to migrate the few (usually very poor quality signals) channels from Band I on Cable to Band III / Hyperband / UHF.

Will this mean that E4 will finally be in nicam stereo like the rest of them?

Does this mean that a UK tellie will work over here now?

My UK tellie has worked here for the last 21 years, off and on.

Some UK TVs only do UHF. Some UK TVs do all Bands. Presumably NTL analog cable also uses Band III and Hyperband (top Part of Band III, extending right up to edge of UHF).

When analog cable is abolished, then only a Digital Cable Receiver MPEG2 decoder will work. Then UHF only will be fine.

About 4 years ago RTE was supposed to complete a changeover of "Off Air" TV to UHF. This was abandoned. Some areas need VHF for RTE and UHF for TV3 / TG4 which is MAD. Especially Irish Speaking areas.

AFAIK all the VHF relays are now replaced by UHF.

Also Labgear and others make a VHF / UHF convertor which takes in BandI, BandII and hyperband and "shifts" it all to UHF. If you have LOTs of UHF channels, you might need a cheap aerial change-over switch like is sold for consoles, to aviod interference between the converted-to-UHF channels and the actual UHF channels.
