    I think Dave's a natural tbh. Not the best but he is definitely at one with kit ...... :cool:

    Jimmy Chamberlain is probably technically the best drummer I've seen live, but as far as pure bruit force goes, Shannon Larkin, (ex of Amen) probably wins. When I saw them play Reading his kit had to practically be put back together from scratch after every song he was hittin the thing so hard :)

    Has to be Danny Carey for me, pure class.

    Best drummer I've ever seen live has to be Myles Drennan though. Jazz drummer who I saw with Louis Stewart. Very impressed.

    For use of a standard kit then it's Matt Cameron of Soundgarden/Pearl Jam/others fame, he's got all four limbs working on different time signatures and different beats. Once he gets up to speed it's amazing to hear and oh-so satisfying when you hear a sudden beat of toms jump in and slide back into oblivion.

    If you're going for people with their own agenda with regards drum kits then Jimmy Chamberlain and Danny Carey are the men. Chamberlain is too freakin' fast to comprehend and Carey is as incrediible as his drum setup.

    Mike Portnoy, no real competition IMO :)
    Guy from Dark Tranquility is another excellent drummer, albiet I forget his name.

    Slayer guy and Dreamtheater guy (forget their names :p) are pretty cool.

    Also the Def Leppard drummer deserves respect for drumming with one arm :)

    Taylor Hawkins is pretty damn good aswell.

    Danny Carey beats all though (well aprt from them unreal jazz drummers that no1 has ever realy heard about :>)
    The drummer from machine head is also unreal with his feet.

    I won't even try comment on "best", but Jason Reece (of Trail of Dead) is definitely one of my favourites, he's very clever.

    Im sorry people but absolutely nobody compares to BUDDY HOLLY. Was and probably always will be be the greatest drummer of all time!!

    Out of todays drummers probably Dave Grohl but he doesnt even compare to BUDDY HOLLY.

    Nah, the At the Gates drummer was Adrian Erlandsson. But take nothing away from Per Moller Jensen, he's savage!

    Either Jan Axl Von Blomberg, or Martin Lopez.

    I think for sheer technical ability, and range of styles it has to be Von Blomberg, and he's hardly a slack at knocking out a decent beat. His work with Arcturus is probably his best, it's just staggering, and in some parts very experimental. Astounding to hear!

    Martin Lopez for technical ability, range of styles, but mostly just being a joy to listen to. Despite Von Blomberg being a masterfull Jazz drummer, I think Lopez does the whole Jazzy/Chilled thing better.

    Mitch mitchell (irish) who played with jimi hendrix or everyones favourite keith moon (the who). john bonham- led zepplin ( played with his fists in london show)

    Most people who name these off only name them because they've heard of them, but never actually listened. Unless you're a drummer, most people would be quite bored listening to these two.

    Prince is actually a great drummer.

    As is the case with these threads though - it should be titled "Name your favourite drummer"

    I know, but if we were to actually try and find "The best drummer in the world" it wouldn't be Dave Abbruzzesse, nor Phil Rudd. It's so subjective, but when anybody replies to these threads it's basically their favourite.
