do you want a site that tells you how to fold and hang your clothes also.

ask your parents, or ask in a dry cleaners.

    google it

    Here's an idea- Learn
I can't believe people do these things!
I'm gonna presume this isn't a troll, or if it is then boards really shouldn't have banned all those quality trolls- but seriously, prehistoric man didn't have the means to go "http://www.google.ie/search?q=how+to+make+fire&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en&meta=" now did they?

I'll give you a few hints.

    washing clothes.
    Ingredients:
    1. Washing machine or bathtub.
    2. Washing powder, automatic for machine, handwash for bathtub.
    3. For washing machines- put powder into the place that says powder, turn on, and twist until you hear a watery sloshing sound. When sound stops and the thing has no water in it and isn't moving then take out clothes and leave them to drip dry over the bath.
    4. Fill bath with water, throw in washing powder (soap, shampoo or shower gel will do) Once again leave to drip dry.
    5. If you find clothes still reek after, and now they smell mouldy to boot, spray with Febreeze, if you have no Febreeze use whatever cheap crap deoderant, such as Lynx Jockboy or Lynx Suffocation- and spray liberally but do try and coordinate your fragrences if yer using shower gel as the girls love it.

    Ironing
    1. Get the largest encyclopedia/phonebook/whatever you have and put the sleeves of your shirt in it.
    2. Sit on said volume until you're satisfied sleeve is less wrinkled. Then put in another sleeve and watch another episode of whatever crap's being re-run on RTE.
    3. Repeat steps as necessary.
    4. Get a job you student leaches!

Next I'll teach you how to subsist on nothing but Amstel, bread crusts, hand-outs and Koka noodles.

To wash clothes you put them in the washing machine, put in some powder and turn the machine to eith 30 degrees wash, 60 degrees wash or 90 degrees wash. Use 90 for washing white clothes, 60 for mixed, and 30 for delicates. Don't mix coloureds and whites, always ends badly! Press start and the machine will start. When it stops making noise it's finished so you can take clothes out.

To dry you stick the clothes on a washing line outside, or if you don't have one spread them out on radiators, or over chairs inside. If you leave them over night they usually go dry.

To iron, you will need either an ironing board, or a flat surface (tabletop) with a towel over it. Put whatever you're ironing on the towel/ironing board, and just run the iron over both sides untill it looks vaugely wearable! Don't iron patterns, as they will come off on the iron and wreck your top.

Thats pretty much it. Sorry for waffling, but I washed dryed and ironed a load of clothes today, so it's all fresh in my head! :ninja:

    thanks blondie83
    your a great help

what about washing different types(colors) of jeans

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,604 ✭✭✭blondie83

Well some jeans can run, so I would do them in the washing machine at 30 degrees, and not with anything white!
They take ages to dry inside, so unless you have a tumble dryer you'll need to rig up some sort of clothes line outside for them (note: said clothes line can be as simple as a rope tied between 2 trees!) And leave them out for about 7 hours. If you dry jeans on a radiator they tend to get all stiff, which can be a bit of a pain, but wears off after a couple of days.
Jeans crease a lot when they are washed, so they do need to be ironed. Make ironing surface/put up ironing board, and set the iron to its hottest level. Then just iron as normal. I usually iron mine while they're still a tiny bit damp, cos it makes it easier. Jeans always feel stiff after they have been washed, but that wears off after a day or so, so don't worry about it! :ninja:

    60 for mixed

some items of clothing will still run at 60 deg. I wash most of my clothes at 40 deg. Only things that I know for sure won't run, such as plain t-shirts, etc get washed at 60 deg.

My TKD suit, white towels, bed sheets get a boil (90) wash, as you want them sparkling.

I also wash a lot of my boyfriends gym gear, as to be honest, he'd be happy to leave it in the back of the car, until the smell went. Replica football jerseys get the 40 deg treatment, and everything else gets ~60 deg.

A lot of dry-clean only clothes, but not all can be machine washed. I do this in a wool-wash, which is about 30 deg and has a gentler spin cycle. If you're any way unsure though, just take them to the dry cleaners.

Pffff.. - everything goes in at D - 40 degrees
only exception is pink stuff - that gets bleached.

    thanks for all the help

why do you wash stuff at lower temperatures can i ask

what do yee mean by it will "run"

is there any site out there with all this stuff on it?

    Many thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,518 ✭✭✭✭dudara

"run" means that the dye from one article of clothing will bleed in the wash turning your white shirt gray, or in my boyfriends case, a rather nice shade of pink. Dark-dye jeans are terrible for running and it's always a good idea to wash them separately or with similar items. However, after a few washes all the dye will have come out, so they're usually ok to wash with other items then.

Washing at lower temperatures tends to prevent this, and it also protects delicates like wool, silk, satin etc from damage.
