Has anyone here down a RTW trip?

Thinking of heading off for 6mths - 1 Year.

Has anyone any advice that you wish you had when you were planning/went on the trip.

How hard is to to get work in Australia (doing anything, just to top up finances)
Places to stay. How expensive is renting.
Would you recommend going on your own (my friend is looking iffy)
How much money would you suggest? Minimum anyway!

Any help appreciated, only in the planning stages right now.

Majority of time in Australia (WHV) do you need Visa for short stays in other countries in Asia etc?

    Thanks in advance :)

It's hard to give you advice without more information regarding where you want to go.

For Australia anyway you can get a holiday visa for up to 3 months. They'll extend it if you can prove you have the financial means to support yourself. I think the 1 year working visa is only issued to anyone once so make the most of it if you are thinking of working there. Should be no problems regarding getting work if you are willing to do anything (tend bars, stack shelves etc).

I assume when you said asia you meant South East Asia....

For Thailand, your EU citizenship will let you in for 30 days without having to get a visa. You'll need to arrange one if you are staying for longer than 30 days.

Vietnam and Combodia etc you will need to get a visa beforehand to enter. This can be easily arranged in any travel agencies if you are going to be in Thailand before going off to those places.

Everything is very cheap in South East Asia, hostels catering for western backpackers will cost typically around $5. Best thing to do is get a copy of the Lonely Planet's guide to S.E.Asia as it's full of recommendations and info.

And everything anyone says here, including myself, you should double check with the appropriate authorities in case there's been changes or someone got a bad memory.
