Trumpet & Pianist / Keys Player Wanted...

Both a trumpet player and a pianist / keyboardist / organist wanted to join with a band comprising drums, saxophone, bass & guitar.

The band has been together a while, but due to previous restrictions (i.e. me finishing college this May) we're still getting it together. At the moment we rehearse each Friday night in the TBMC, but this'll be upped to Wednesdays and Fridays come April, and possibly more often come the end of May.

The music is difficult to describe, but is quite shuffly, jazzy, funky. The sax adds alot, as you can imagine, and the addition of a trumpet to form a small brass section would be ideal. The guitar is more rhythmic with the melody coming from the bass, sax and vocals. The drums feature quite prominently too, not just pattering away in the background.

We put huge emphasis on "band input". That is to say, there is no REAL singer / songwriter in the band. Most songs come out of one or two people mixing ideas and others building around that. We're constantly bouncing ideas off one another, so if pride, ego or showmanship are of great importance to you, perhaps this wouldn't be your thing.

If you are willing / able to sing harmonies, that would definitely be a plus!

We're interested in creating something interesting and new, but also accessible. Keen on jamming stuff out to see where it goes, but also keen on cutting stuff down to "sellable" levels!

Anyway, if you're interested at all, reply, send me a PM or text / call me (Seán) @ 087-6316133

P.S. Don't let my username fool ya! It's a long story, and nothing to do with the music :)

Just to clarify, we don't mean someone who plays trumpet AND keys...

If you can, that'd be great, but 2 separate people would be just fine.

20 views and only one reply... Don't be shy, people! ;)

Thanks for the replies fellas, PMs sent to both of you.

In case anyone's a bit more curious, here are links to two very rough recordings:

    http://netsoc.dit.ie/~capnfunch/sounds/IWasTalkingAndMyMouthSlipped.mp3
    http://netsoc.dit.ie/~capnfunch/sounds/AppleTree.mp3

The first is just a stereo mic in the room while we played, and then one or two overdubs. The second is an acoustic version of a tune we did for DIT FM. Sorry about the size of the files!

By the way, I forgot to mention that we're of the opinion that ability isn't really that important. We feel that it's much more about attitude. You can always improve your ability with practice, but if you've a bad attitude then it's a ticket to disaster.

Personally, I've been in bands where people's attitudes have just ruined the whole thing. People being too proud, to un-open to ideas ("that sounds too reggae/pop/jazz"), etc.

Not getting a cheap shot in here, just saying that all you gotta do is be able to play a bit, be a little creative and be open to giving / receiving ideas...

Oh, and if you write a song, the chances are after you present to the band we'll ALL try and change it a certain way. Lord knows it's happened with my tunes, but with compromise it ALWAYS works out for the better! :)

    Hey Jon_e5, you alive? :)

I sent you a PM. Still interested in a piano player if you (or anyone else) is keen...

Also, still looking for a trumpet to complete that mini-brass section!

Hey which Dit are you guys in?

    Hey ShriekingSheet,

I'm just finishing 4th year in Kevin Street DIT. The rest of the band are all working out in the big bad world!

Thanks for the PM, but unfortunately we're not really looking for a guitarist, but instead a pianist and a trumpet player.

I'm sure there's plenty of bands out there looking for guitarists though, so I'd have a look around the rest of the the Music boards if I were you.

I know sanfran is putting together a band (I think he has a bassist and a drummer already and plays guitar / sings himself too), so maybe you should give him a shout?

    Cheers,

    *BUMP*

Still really really looking for a trumpet player...

You'd be working closely with the sax player for a mini-brass section and we promise it wouldn't be boring!

If anyone can play the trumpet and is even slightly interested, please let me know. Also, if you know anyone who can play trumpet maybe you could let me know and / or give them my number...

    Cheers,
