All descended from the crew of the HMS Bounty if I remember correctly!

Only four surnames on the island. One of which is "Christian" as in Fletcher Christian... I think the mutineers only lasted about 10 years before setting on each other...

Some woman wrote a book about it recently, went to check out their lifestyle, had an affair with a married man (like nobody would notice with a population of 49) and got in some BIG trouble...

Was in the news a while back over an alleged sexual abuse of women and children on the island. Not sure how it turned out. Also some prosecutors for the case were caught in some compromising photographs at the time. Apparently sharing partners and having kids with several different partners is not unusual there. Choice must be pretty slim there

    http://www.government.pn/PnRegistry/PnRegistry.htm

    Table of fees.

    For a non-generic second-level domain (e.g. abc.pn)
    1. First registration, US$200
    (covers the first two years)

    2. Annual Renewal fee - US$100
(an invoice will be sent two years after first registration)

    http://www.iana.org/root-whois/pn.htm

Can't find it but there was a falling out with the lad that used to run the .pn domain for them and they got over 95% of the adult population to sign a petition against him.

Some facts from the CIA world fact book:

    Labor force: 12 able-bodied men (1997)

Electricity - production: NA kWh; note - electric power is provided by a small diesel-powered generator

Telephones - main lines in use:1 (there are 17 telephones on one party line) (1997)

Languages: English (official), Pitcairnese (mixture of an 18th century English dialect and a Tahitian dialect

Population: 47 (July 2003 est.), because apparantly the CIA can't count to 47

thats really cool. if i lived there i'd form the able bodied men into a small militia force, declare independance from the UK and see if they did anything :). THEN, once an independant nation and with no fear of creating an international incident/being taken seriously i would declare war upon and subsequently invade the United States.

    15 minutes of fame...here i come
