Arsenal vs. Man United

I think Man United will win one game and Arsenal will win one.
Whoever wins the first will want revenge in the second one :)

If I was an Arsenal fan I think i'd want them to win the Premiership one and lose the FA Cup one.

I think a defeat in the league at this stage could TOTALLY throw them completely off balance. It could result in another loss, or even a couple of scrappy draws, which might be enough for Chelsea to catch em :)

If they lose FA Cup, the players will just think, pfft we won the premiership anyway.

I've gone for a draw in the Premiership and United to win in the FA cup. If United win the premiership match, Chelsea will be 6 points behind them with 8 (?) games to play and I can see Arsenal getting a bit tired.

lol yea right pull the other one!!

imo the fa cup match is way more important than the league match id be happy with a draw and then a win in the fa cup match

cant see chelsea putting up much of a run for the title and they have to play utd away too remember!

Yeah but the point is that Arsenal havn't lost a match yet, think of the physchological impact of a loss at this stage, againist their main rivals.

My friend said to me a while ago:

What a difference it would have made if Van Nistrolroy had scored that penalty againist Arsenal

maybe nothing maybe everything!? (apart from the whole world calling for arsenal's public execution on soho square for the handbags....sorry assaults after )

    that was 5 months ago
you dont go unbeaten for 29 games on luck alone
and it shouldnt have been a plenalty anyway to be honest but lets not go into that

think one of the games will be a draw but the fa cup match can not end in a draw it will go to peno's if level after 120 minutes

I'd rather Arsenal lose the league game and win the FA cup game, because a) winning the FA cup will then be all but gauranteed for the 3rd time running and b) it's the second game. Winning the second game will 'rectify' the situation, in the players minds at least, if not points-wise in the table.

I reckon Reyes will start both games against United, partnering Henry in the league and Bergkamp in the cup. He'll score.

Not going to even try and predict the results though :)

I'd say Arsenal to win both...possibly quiet easily imho.

Lose the Premiership match? Are you mental? We'd never hear the end of the "Haha - we broke your unbeaten run" slaggings from the United fans! I'd nearly rather lose both the Champions League and the FA Cup!

    United to win both. :)

Utd to win one and draw the other. I have a feeling they will win the fa cup match and draw the league match.

No way in hell will either team with both matchs in my opinion.

Ah no, I'd say the league match will be a draw, but arsenal could pick it, depends on uniteds defence really, if they continue to play **** henry will have a field day

Anyone know if Keane will be fit?? Cos watching Veria bashing Djembe Djemba will be just borring.

Based on last night Viera won't be bashing anyone - Makeke had him in his pocket

We,ll have to set Ruud on him if he starts hassling poor Keano.

Both team will be really up for both matches and there is feck all between them. United have been criticised lately and must be hurting and so will not want to Lose and for that reason and because I,m a blinkered Biased United Fan I preditct a win and a draw for Us.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 389 ✭✭Aliminator

it depends on where Keano plays for Utd. if he plays in midfield, we'll see more of last nite (unfortunately). Viera and edu seriously tired out and not controlling hte game. but your back 4 will be vulnerable. :>
however, if he plays in Defence, well, the game is Arsenals.
i'd rather they draw prem, and win FA cup. the adrenaline rush from the FA cup win will carry them thru to the Semi's of hte CL.

4-1 to man u in the league and 1-0 in the cup

nistelrooy with 3, ronaldo with 1 and belion with the other!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 505 ✭✭✭NightStrike

Just seeing as Ronaldo was mentioned its important to note that Ashley Cole has been ruled out for the match which means Ronaldo will probably start on the right. I know Clichy has done well this season when hes had to fill in but its still a blow as Cole would be more experienced

Another 2-2 at Highbury (as per last season), with some crunching tackles and cards.
A tamer follow-up, United sneaking it 2-1 against a very nackered Arsenal team.

Hope United cause a mass brawl on Sunday, they have less to lose as they were not seen as the instigators earlier in the season, if Arsenal got involved again they would be facing point deductions this time, about 10 would do. United having a few players suspended would only really matter if the cup game went to a replay. ;)

Eh! why would Arsenal be any more knackered than United?

  • Moderators, Regional North East Moderators Posts: 12,739 Mod ✭✭✭✭cournioni

I'm just hoping that Ferguson starts Giggs on the left, with Scholes and Keane in midfield. Playing Giggs up front with Scholes on the left wing doesn't work at all.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 175 ✭✭bdiddy

I think its gonna come down to who keeps the cool. United players are more likely to loose the plot but arsenal players wud b well pissed if utd got on top of the game or even scored a goal at a vital stage. One sending off wud def change d game. Hope and believe there's a real chance of Utd winning on both counts.

Yeah but the've only played one extra game to date. I hope the Gunners are not goint to start whinging about fixture congestion because ant time united did that in the past they got no support from Wenger who always maintained it shouldn't be a problem as its the same for every team. :)

what do you mean by main rivals exactly? surely chelsea are their main rivals for the league and locally it would be spurs because them both being from london.

should be 2 good games but arsenal should win both cos, i think, are quality all over and this is tough for me to say, i am a spurs fan :-(

Yes, you've pointed out that Man United are Third, I recognise that, but that just doesn't change the fact that at the start of the season the team arsenal needed to beat Man United, and at the start of the season the team Man United needed to beat were Arsenal.

Main rivals meaning the main rivals for the premiership :)

But seriously, if you've gone a season un-beaten and you suddenly lose a match, think of the impact it'll have on you.

I'd be surprised if a 10-point deduction was enough to give United the title this season. :)

Besides - I see no evidence that United are playing the better football at the moment. Most of the people who think United are going to win seem to be basing this on some kind of complete reversal of fortune for both sides. Possible, but unlikely.

It'd be an interesting tactic, but how often has anyone ever gotten a 10 point reduction?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,467 ✭✭✭smemon

i predict a double whammy for utd over arsenal.

ive got a sneaky feeling utd are very angry at going out of the champs league and will be well up for the first game anyway. utd will be hungrier for the fa cup, ive no doubt about that. i dont think arsenal would be up for a physical game so hopefully we'll see some bite in utd's back 4 and the midfield.

the league as isnt important for utd with arsenal being so far ahead, but fergie wont want arsenal to win it. a win for utd would give chelsea a glimmer and that would put them under pressure and rattle them a bit, something they havn't experienced yet this season in the league.

Providing Chelsea win, of course! European hangovers are pretty common against smaller teams.

Vieira,Campbell and Pires are facing late fitness tests. Hmmm interesting.... A way to get out of the midweek friendly matches???

True, they'd have to play no extra games, but I guess there is a point to be made about Arsenal's reserves being tested, not having carried much in the way of injuries yet this season.
I think if both teams were to lose a couple of crucial players (eg Van N, Keane, Henry, Vieira) for the second game, I wouldnt be surprised to see Arsenal struggle a little more than United to acclimatise to it. United have been juggling absentees all season at this stage. At full strength, I still don't see much between them.

I reckon that Arsenal squad is pretty tightly wound, and more likely to throw up a Duncan Ferguson moment. They've transformed their poor disciplinary record the last 6 months, but they do look like men possessed a lot of the time. Ashley Cole's girlish screams when celebrating Pires' goal the other night was pretty scary(!!). It might only take one spark to light them up.

Anyways, not being a "fan" of either team, I'd say United for the Cup, and Arsenal for the league game. I think United will obviously want that Cup this year and Arsenal want that unbeaten record pretty bad to justify some of the accolades. But injuries / suspensions will be critical, eg Ronaldo will likely have a field day in Cole's absence, as could Bergkamp if United havent stabilised their patched-up defence.

Arsenal want it as much as Man Utd as obviously they're going for all 3trophies and giving a game away to man utd coz they dont care is a ridiculous assumption.

Fergie is gona have a good choice for defense, missing only Ferdinand and Fortune afaik.

    That's gona line up as
    Neville - Neville - Slyvestre - O Shea

Not a terrible defense, espically with Keano playing just in front of them.

I think Arsenal are weak when dealing with crosses, so I'm hoping Scholes and Saha are playing at the same time

i.e a Midfielder of Keano and Scholes, with Saha and Van up front.
Giggs and Ronaldo feeding the ball in and Lehman will **** up eventually.

Similarily Man United are weak when dealing with crosses :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 505 ✭✭✭NightStrike

Apparently Carroll is going to start in goal for Utd, dunno what to make of that.

I don't think Saha will start tbh.

Team I think will play will be:

    Carroll

    G. Neville Brown Silvestre O'Shea

    Ronaldo P. Neville Keane Giggs

    Scholes

    Van Nistelrooy.

Also anyone see today where Henry is feeling the pressure and blew up at Ash Cole and Edu at half-time of Chelsea match.

Why would they play Phil Neville in front of Butt?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 505 ✭✭✭NightStrike

Well because he's played there most of the season ahead of Butt apart from lately when a combination of Phil having to "help" the defence and Keane being injured/suspended meant Butt got his place.

Also last time these side's met at Highbury Neville was a revelation alongside the mighty world beater that is Juan Sebastian Veron.

Plus its Ferguson picking the team so nuff said really :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 15,552 ✭✭✭✭GuanYin

Unless Utd pull a world class defence out of their ass at the last minute I can'y see them winning either games.
Arsenal have scored in 105/110 matches against premierleague opposition, which is just nuts.

A score draw tomorrow and an FA cup win for the gooners.

    Utd to sneak it 2-1.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,163 ✭✭✭ZENER

I think there will be a lot of goals in this game, both teams will be on the attack from the start - Arsenal because they are at home and need to please their fans and United because at this stage they've nothing to lose !

Obviously I want United to win but it'll be a hard call, still I predict 5 goals with United tipping the balance !
