Ok the new rig has been assembled and is posting ok.....

    Antec Sonata
    Asus K8V
    AMD Athlon 64 3200+
    512MB Mushkin PC3200
    MSI GeForce 5700 128MB
    Maxtor 120GB SATA
    NEC ND-2500

The next step is to build XP on it....only thing is I don't know which drivers I need off the cd for the SATA....

Has anyone done this before who could maybe point me in the right direction....

Someone else had the same problem before and I think he went and download VIA VT6420 (VT8237) SATA RAID Driver Package Version 2.20D WHQL. that to set up the SATA without RAID. I'm not sure whether the driver is in the CD, but try downloading that and see. Also, press F6 as soon as XP setting up to load the SATA driver. You might want to get Microsoft XP boot disk as well. I know a few of K8V owners including myself had trouble booting XP cd.

Look on the CD for the "create raid disk" or something like that, and it'll make the disk for you.
You might want to use the "Promise" raid controller if you intend to overclock.

I tested the XP cd last night and it will boot from it no problem....It just crashes at the point of looking at the hard disk....

That happened to me as well. The first time it booted okay but didnt continue set up because XP couldnt find a hard disk. After that it wont boot from the CD any more.

It's alive....well, that is, following the discovery that the original SATA driver disk I made was a dodgy disk and made a new one....

I found it was quite easy to get this machine up and running with this board despite all the horror stories I had read....

Is there any advantage to be gained from ugrading my bios I wonder???....I've already downloaded all the updated drivers for the rest of the board and will be installing them this evening....

I had the same problem with my ASUS K8V Deluxe and a Samsung 160GB SATA HDD. Anyway, solved that. I flashed the new BIOS ver 1005 before I set up Win XP Pro and it seems to be working fine. I had one of those blue screen memory reference errors last week so I performed a full format last night and started to re-install all the software, Service packs and updates. Let me know how you get on with your K8V Deluxe and I'll keep you posted on my progress

I also flashed my BIOS to 1005. No specific reason. I guess I just wanted the latest BIOS. Didnt get to use the 1003 much so I cant really tell whether there are any significant changes.
I had no problems with the new BIOS. The only time I had a BSOD was when I was overclocking my cpu and pushed it a tad bit too much :)
