Home and Away

I know the people on these message boards are all probably far too mature to be watching Home and Away, but incase anyone out there shares my weakness I wanted to ask a question:

Is anyone else utterly horrified by the Kirsty/Kane storyline? It's being built into this big Romeo and Juliet romance. The guy raped her sister! What kind of a message is that for a soap aimed at a young audience to give out?

    The thing is...

He didn't rape her. It was consensual sex, whether she was uncomfortable with it or not.

How can it be consensual if the girl doesn't want it?

Being uncomfortable with something and not wanting something are two very different things.

Even better than that, according to my sister [currently in Oz]:
    She ends up marrying Kane!
I can't remember the original Kane storyline, but it may have been consensual. Having regrets afterwards, not liking the act itself, doesn't make it rape. Rape is if she had said "Stop" (or indicated clearly otherwise) and Kane had refused to. Heavy stuff either way...

Hold on a sec! If he didn't rape her and it was just a case of her being pissed off after the event then why is her family so against him and why did she go through a load of emotional crap because of it? Another stupid Home and Away piece of crap storyline like Noah being a councilor because he's a recovering alcoholic after getting pissed a couple of times. They really do live on a different planet.

And before you ask, no, I don't watch it on purpose. My Girlfriend does so that means I do :(

i love it because of the fact that its so terrible.

oh btw... more on the kirsty thing from the official site... god im bored.
After a touching reunion, Kirsty and Kane travel to Yabby Creek to have the AVO withdrawn. Kane suggests a memorial for their dead baby, but Kirsty rejects the idea - she just wants to move on.

When Shelley says Rhys isn't a strong man, she starts an argument with Beth. Later, Shelley apologises and they agree to be friends … but will it last?

Hayley finally comes to accept she has a problem. She seeks help with Flynn, who encourages her to start painting again as a way of dealing with her negative feelings. After Leah makes an innocent comment about missing Alex, Hayley goes on a drawing frenzy which ends with her trashing the palace. Scott and Dani find Hayley's paintings and think they are incredible - but Hayley hates them and asks Dani destroy them.

Furious with Sally's promise to assist Floss, Flynn begins sleeping on the couch. Sally apologises to Flynn and tells Floss she can't help to die. Meanwhile, a vial of morphine goes missing from the surgery - could Sally have stolen it??

The Waterways Authority inspects Alf and Scott's boat business and finds a lot of faults. Scott is worried he will lose his license and his livelihood, but Rhys springs into action and offers him a maintenance job in the caravan park. With Alf and Scott unavailable, Kane is asked to take over as captain.

When Kim, Robbie and Tasha borrow Irene's car without permission, disaster strikes. Kim crashes the car into a ravine. In a panic, the three agree to say they were never there - but when Irene goes to the crash site she finds Robbie's glasses.

Jade convinces the student body to stage a lock-in to force Hyde to resign. The kids will take over the school and refuse to leave. Hyde smells a rat and quizzes Kirsty about what's going on, but before he can learn anything she faints. After examining her, Flynn reveals Kirsty hasn't lost the baby - she's still pregnant!

When Alf offers Kim a part-time job as a lifeguard, Kim decides to quit school and move into the beach house. A furious and upset Hyde threatens to cut his son off financially, and accuses Kim of tampering with the school files.

Meanwhile, Henry and Max fake illness to avoid Hyde. When Beth finds out, she forces the boys to confess to Hyde that they are the ones responsible for the missing school files. Everyone is amazed when Hyde responds by suspending them for three weeks. Max's crush on Matilda is obvious as he exonerates her from any part in the pranks.

Leah quits her job in tears when Jesse agrees with the women in her aerobics class, who say they don't want to look at a pregnant woman and that her morning sickness is hindering the class. Flynn rebukes Jesse, only to be told that it's none of his business. Jesse apologises and makes up with Leah, but she tells him that sometimes she wishes she wasn't having the baby. Jesse says nothing, but the look on his face says he feels the same way.

Later, Jesse confronts Flynn after he catches him and Leah in what he mistakes to be an intimate moment at the gym. Could Jesse have a rival for Leah's affection?

Because Danny moaned and insisted after the fact that it was rape. It went to court and got thrown out, but the family (and entire town) still have their knickers in a knot over it.

I love the ****ness of home and away. Wouldn't be right not having it... Beats that corination street bollox any day of the week.

If my memory serves, he tryed to kiss her and she screamed at him and pushed him off, then he left.
If this is what happened I feel justified in the regularity of my shouts of "Oh c'mon!" at the Tv.

FOR THOSE INTERESTED, HERES A MAJOR SPOILER....

    Twin Troubles

The Sutherland family is rocked by the news that Jade is not really Kirsty's twin sister!

From the moment they arrived in Summer Bay, the lives of Kirsty and Jade Sutherland have been filled with drama. But nothing that has happened in the past few years could prepare the young pair for the bombshell that is about to be dropped on them - Jade is NOT Kirsty's twin sister after all!

In one of the most shocking storylines ever to be played out on Home and Away, life for the Sutherland family will change forever when it is discovered that Kirsty has an identical twin sister! A mix up at the hospital 17 years ago resulted in Kirsty's real twin, Laura, being switched with another baby girl born in the hospital at the same time - Jade!

But that's not all! TV WEEK can reveal that when Laura arrives in the Bay to meet Kirsty (Christie Hayes) for the first time, a devastating chain of events will be set off that will climax with a tragic accident. And while we can't reveal who will be involved in that accident, we can promise you'll be glued to your screens in coming weeks.

The Incredible situation begins to unfold when Rhys (Michael Beckley) receives a strange call from a Mrs Degroot. Soon after, the Degroots (played by Anna Lee and Damian Rice) visit Rhys. They deliver the news that Jade is their biological daughter, while the daughter they raised is Kirsty's twin! As Rhys struggles to come to grips with the revelation, he wonders how he can break the news to Kirsty and Jade (Kate Garven).

But they're about to find out the truth for themselves. When Laura (also played by Christie Hayes) takes a walk around the small coastal town, it's not too long before she runs into Kane (Sam Atwell), Seb (Mitch Firth) and Jade, all of whom mistake her for Kirsty. Quickly realising something is astray, Jade and Kirsty head home., where they are introduced to Laura. And they simply can't believe what they see or hear.

"Kirsty is just amazed when she sees a young woman who is the spitting image of her," Christie says. "She is just completley taken aback. I can't even comprehend what it would be like."

"This has come at the most inconvenient time, in terms of where Kirsty's at," Christie says. "She's just got married, she's just dealing with being pregnant and so she is quite emotionally scattered. This news really knocks her back. There are so many unanswered questions."

But it is Jade who takes the revelation the hardest. Running from the house, Jade is painfully aware she is not who she thought she was and neither is her family.

"Jade is obviously the one who feels like the outsider, like she doesn't belong," Christie says. "Kirsty is very worried about how Jade feels about it all. She will always think of Jade as her sister - undoubtedly. They've been together for nearly 18 years."

"Kirsty's main priority now is to make Jade feel as loved and as close to her as she can. And I can also say that Kirsty will find herself in need of something Laura can give her!"

Was about to say that :) Expect everyone to distinguish between Kirsty and her evil twin in the final battle by the love they feel in their hearts for her and the bad lip sync :D

says a whole lot really about the quality of Home and Away

if this is a true storyline then the script writers are idiots. I seem to remember some load of bollox about Jade 'feeling' what Kirsty was because they were twins etc. Talk about ****ing up continuity. I've always hated Home and Away but this storyline sounds like a desperate attempt to be 'different'.

Good point. The whole thing is a load of crap, just as the Kane-Dani-Kirsty storyline is a load of crap. Home and Away used to have great stories in the early 90's. Now it's just ridiculous.

I don't watch it anymore (way too old) but the stories have always been the same, they just replace the kids every few years. There's always a kid who turns up out of the blue, can't read or write, hasn't ate a hot meal in weeks, he písses off Alf for robbing Alf's sandwiches out of his picnic basket, everyone tells Alf to go easy on the poor gallah and two months later the kid is living with Alf. Then the kid's older brother or sister turns up, Alf can't cope coz he's seeing ghosts and so they go live with Irene for a few years...etc etc

Much better than Corrie anyway. Eastenders is a bag of shít too.

The landslide Alf and Alsa house was covered by a landslide and jade saved he day by "feeling" where Kirsty was.

I'm just waiting for the Aboriginal guy to come back, so far he's saved Alf and Coleen and they never really explained him.

once they stay at the beach house for a while, they usually move away to either
    1) Yabbie Creek
    2) perth
    or
    3) 'the city'

from tv week an aussie magazine...

    Horror smash

Two of Summer Bay’s most popular residents will be involved in a horrific accident this week.

Shock waves will ripple through the small seaside town when the drag-racing car that Jade (Kate Garven) is travelling in – with her distraught boyfriend, Seb (Mitch Firth), hanging on to the bonnet – explodes in a huge fireball after careening off a cliff.

Jade’s life began to spiral out of control when she was told she was not Kirsty’s (Christie Hayes) twin sister. Since then, a confused Jade has been led astray by Alf’s (Ray Meagher) rebellious son, Duncan (Brendan McKensy).

For Duncan, who recently returned to the Bay, has wasted no time in introducing Jade to drugs.

But tragedy strikes this week immediately after Hayley (Bec Cartwright) and Robbie’s (Jason Smith) combined birthday party. Duncan agrees to a drag race with Jade in the passenger seat. Before he can drive off, Seb jumps on to the bonnet and pleads with Duncan to stop.

But an out-of-control Duncan takes no notice. He wins the chicken contest but is unable to bring his car to a stop, and it sails over the edge of a cliff with Seb still hanging on to the front and Jade inside the car! Don’t miss it.

Not ****ing Duncan... But if he comes back it's only right that he should die and take Seb with him. Good riddance. Jade isn't the worst though.

Is that episode directed by John Woo ?!! Mad stuff.

    re: smoke-me-a-kipper's post.
As if they didn't have enough deaths in the bay. Ffs I liked Seb, he was one of the few good characters. At least that little **** Duncan will die though. Why did he leave in the first place? It always seemed like you saw more of Alf's foster children than you saw Duncan, which wasn't exactly a bad thing :)

I remember when he used to go around causing no end of trouble for everyone and Ailsa was completely fooled by his manipulative tactics. Reminded me so much of my brother and the way he manipulates my parents that I wanted to smash the screen

Check out Sally's Diary on the h&a website. The plotlines that are coming up in the next 6 months are so bad thier funny.
Dani goes to prison for 3 years for attempted manslaughter or something, Flynn falls for Leah, Hayley is in a terrible car crash and her face gets destroyed and Tasha finds out that her real mother is the crazy Angie. It's getting a bit ridiculous, I'm worse for actually looking it up on the web. :o
