Technical Writer Required

    Howday,

    My team at work is looking for a Technical Writer and I've been given the job to try and find one.

    Nothing is very concrete at the moment but the position would be offered on a contract basis. More than likely a 3-6 month contract to start with. The thing is, they have never had a technical writer in before so they are not sure what to expect and so will play things by ear. It was me who brought them round to the idea of getting a tech writer - and believe me there is plenty of work for one!

    The position is located in Dublin near the city centre and is in a large bank. Previous experience would be essential - a portfolio of previous work would definitely be helpful, as would experience writing about distributed web-based systems.

    The really annoying thing is that you would have to go thorough a specific recruitment agency as the bank now only deals with a number of agency's and not with individuals on their own (end of the boom or what, eh?).

    Does anybody have interest in attending for an interview or know someone who would?

    This position is genuine. Let me know if you are interested or PM me.

    Wouldn't it be a bit hard for a candidate to full fill requirements that you don't even know what they should be?

    Perhaps you should lock down responsibilities and such before interviewing people.

    The job is with a architecture team within the banks IT development department. It's a new team (around 8 months old) and we are broadly involved in,

    * Development of a key piece of infrastructure used to enable web services throughout the group.
    * Perform code reviews for other development teams within the department.
    * Develop centrally used components which are used by the other dev teams.
    * Develop a lot of 'proof-of-concept' projects to help teams at project initiation stages.

    A lot of what the group does is around standards and good practice, etc.

    The thing is, that we have a communication problem. It's not a large team and everybody is very busy on their existing tasks to worry about copious amounts of documentation, etc. This is where we need the assistance of a technical writer.

    All the team members will help out in a big way, we just need some structure but around the task. Ideally, to get up and running, it would be great if the tech writer would listen to the developers (on a one-on-one) basis explain what how a product/component works, look at rough paper sketches and diagrams, etc. - and start putting some structure around this info so that it could lead to,

    * A manual for our internal web services product
    * Coding standards
    * FAQ's

    We would require advice on what products would be used to create and maintain this documentation. I've been looking at TeX and I like what I see, but maybe MS-Word would do the trick.

    Any more info required, please PM me.

    Hi,

    I think I can help you out here.

    I've worked for several banks in Dublin, including AIB, BOI, ING among others, so I have a good understanding of how they operate. (and I've got the portfolio to back it up)

    <<<Dublin near the city centre and is in a large bank.
    <<<distributed web-based systems.

    again, no problem here.

    If you want to drop me a line, you can get me at:

    Best Regards,

    Ivan Walsh

    personal email and contact number removed.
    Ivan, you may have the ability of a god and the port folio to back it up, but never put your personal details on on open forum web site you muppet!
    half the people who post here are clinicaly insane for gods sake!
