Linux & 2k Dual Boot problem.

    Help me :/

    I've recently installed Red Hat 9 along with Win 2k.

    I installed 2k first and then installed RH9 as I was told that RH9's boot loader would be much better.

    So when I installed RH9 I accidently told the bootloader (Lilo) to write to the primary hard disk instead of the MBR. Now whenever I boot up my machine, I'm confronted with a dirty win 2k boot loader giving me options of 2k or... another copy of 2k, no linux :(

    I've tried repairing RH9 and then changing the boot loader to write to the MBR but no joy :/

    Any suggestions?

    did you edit /etc/lilo.conf?

    If so, then simply type "lilo".

    yea , and if that doesnt work, make sure the bootable flag is set to the correct partition, you can do this with fdisk

    for example if the disk is on /dev/hdb, (prolly on /dev/hda)

    fdisk /dev/hdb

    then type p
    <enter>

    the one with the star is the bootable one, like so

    Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
    /dev/hdb1 37135 119150 41335875 7 HPFS/NTFS
    /dev/hdb2 * 1 125 62968+ 83 Linux
    /dev/hdb3 126 1118 500472 83 Linux
    /dev/hdb4 1119 37134 18152064 83 Linux

    then type a
    <enter>
    and choose the correct one

    w
    <enter>

    and then reboot

    but flamegrill is prolly right, it may just be a simple lilo.conf prob.

    Im been using grub for a while now myself, I cant remember the lilo conf off hand.
