Africa - The spare wheel?

Let me firstly point out three things:
    1) I am not a racist.
    2) I welcome the influx of asylum seekers and refugees to our country with open arms and feel it is our duty to do so.
    3) This is not a troll and I am not trying to start a flame war.

So, my point is, after my thread yesterday on Women inventors another thing sprang to mind; African Inventors?

Seriously, can anybody think of anything that was invented by an African that is of use in civilised society?

Before all the PC monkeys get on my back I will refer you back to the 3 points above! I am not being racist but seriously cannot think of one thing, however, I can think of at least one invention for every other continent that is of use in civilised society!

Any pointers on this would be appreciated??

    lol

And i suppose any invention created by ay African American can also be credited as African. I'm sure actual Africans have invented many useful things, farmtools etc... Items which be beneficial to them in everyday life. I think with the conditions they live in, inventions of a practical nature would be the only thing they are thinking of.

well id call the guy African, he was born there.

Id see an african american as someone of African desent who was born in America... not just living there. Perhaps thats not technically correct, but its how Id see it

Conditions they live in really can't be used as an excuse...especially since there has been a human race on the African continent for longer than any other...why haven't they advanced themselves?

you may not be racist, but you sure are ignorant

"i dont care if your crops have been wiped out by famine, and your children are dying.... build me a TV thats also a car and a time machine.... NOW!!!"

Im sure there are many reasons for their problems with advances, perhaps previous occupying powers, current dictators, famines, AIDS, natural disasters.... no excuse, mind you

Why was it that back in time the other rulers, such as those of Europe were so far advanced that they were capable of ruling the Africans? Is there a reason for this? Europes crops have also been wiped out by famine, we have had pandemics throughout history( the black death etc), Europe has natural disasters in abundance.... why should Africanot be on a par with the rest of civilisation? Given that we all experience the same hardships throughout time?

Britain was capable of ruling America for a long time, they wernt that much more advanced than them, though.
Anyway, yes, Europe has had natural disasters, famines and plauges etc etc, but no where near the same as Africa, recent natural disasters have destroyed huge pieces oof land and so families and economies, places in Europe might get flooded, but its nothing major and can be dealt with quite easily in comparison. And the black death wasnt exclusive to Europe, Africa got it too, but as Im sure you know AIDS is the latest epidemic, and is rampant on the African continent.

we havent experienced the same hardships through time, and besides natural disasters and diseases, many rulers have, decade after decade done their best to keep the people down to ensure a strong grip on the country, such conditions are not favorable for budding inventors.

I think you will find that AIDS is a pandemic. And I am not talking recent history here...of the course of human kind why has Africa not been able to keep up?
Please remember that dictators are not solely in Africa and try to f=do some researc before you make statements like your last. Which recent natural disasters? how much land? how did it affect the economy? I want facts before I will accept such ludicrous statements!

I think this goes beyond modern society or the last 100 years.....

African civilisations are one of the longest standing civilisations in the world, yet they are possibly the least advanced of all civilisations. Plagues/famines are something that has affected all civilisations, young and old, yet some civilisations have learned to cope and plan for such occurances. On the other hand, African civilsations have not adopted to the difficult comditions they live in in such a way that they are at least gauranteed a certain standard of living. Not only this, but they allow corrupt goverments and dictators to gain power over and over!

I would argue that Artic conditions are more inhospitable, yet the people in these regions manage!

I was refering to TONE, which, no matter how well read you are, is undetectable in print.

this thread should have ended a long time ago, did you not notice the invention i spoke about at the start? did you not say youd shut up once you were proven wrong??

When you have an honours degree and a high paying job you can have an opinion.
Until then, go back to Terry Pratchett's world, probably the only place you feel safe from beatings...you loser.

"wondering" is not exactly making a difference. i wanted to know are you doing anything to make society better? judging from the response you're getting on this thread i doubt you are. not with the attitude you seem to have.

Sorry to tell you, we live in a capitalist society and to be honest, I'm in it for me! I don't want to contribute to anyone else! Once I'm successful I'm happy! That's all that matters!

Well, techinicly the Romans (as we know them) originated in Israel and the Westbank.

    So Middle-Easterners

i asked you earlier were you making a difference to society and you said yes.??. i guess you meant that in a purely selfish way.

So the only people with worthy opinions are those with honours degrees and high paying jobs? Is that how you validate yourself? Are you mr_angry? Didnt you have the same IP addresses?

Yeah, that was in the 19th century.

The point I was making was that there were few Irish scientists before this time, not due to lack of intelligence or creativity amongst the Irish but due to lack of access to scientific education for various reasons. Same applies to Africa, or did in the past at any rate - I presume things are improving nowadays even if there is still a lot of educational inequality in the world.

hence my statement at the start... "prob not much..." and then refered to a period just after it.... still proves dity_latino's point....
