LIDL did a similarly specced machine in Holland, France and Germany last week - don't know if it has a scart but it did have the 9800 all in wonder- have to say thought it was at least €200 more expensive than the aldi

Aldi looks so much the better option but we could be spoilt for choice as the LIDL could be winging its way over here soon too, the last desktop they did was April 1 2005 AFAIR and it was €699 low powered yoke so they're about due

Lucky dutch had the Desktop and Laptop in the same week!

Is the 9800 XXL an All in Wonder or was that only in the Lidl PC?

Also, what's the deal regarding the ordering of these PCs. Last I heard it generally was a first come first served thing with about 8 PCs per shop and as soon as they were gone tough luck.

Hmm....I wonder what I would get for my PC (Athlon 2200+, 512 DDR,80 gig HDD, ATI 7500 AIW, DVD-R/+R/RAM (4X)) if I sold it in Buy and Sell.

If I could get a decent sale on my PC then I might go crazy and buy this one, especially if it has the 9800 all in wonder in it.

whats the diff between the 9800 XXL and the 9800 XXL All in Wonder i am in no way up to date with all the latest graphics cards lingo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,363 ✭✭✭chabsey

Well neither am I really and I've done a very quick check on the 9800 XXL on the ATI site and it doesn't seem to exist. The closest thing is an XT but that's 256meg.

An All in wonder would have some TV elements, watch Tv on your Pc etc.

Does anyone know, please, how this April 1 04 Aldi pc compares with the pre-Christmas 03 one?
I've done some searches on Boards but can't find a definitive Irish price for the last one.
Am I right in thinking that this latest one has a better graphics card and larger hd? - I think last hd was 160gb.
I've been considering buying an Aldi pc for ages but would like to think I was getting some extra value for my patience!

The 9800XXL was a special budget model produced. There was a thread about this on some other site but I can't find it now.

from a quick google and german -> english translation:
Starting from Wednesday (24.3) there is a new PC to buy with ALDI
again. The PC will have a Pentium 4 3.0GHz, 512MB GDR memory, 200GB
non removable disk and a 128MB Radeon 9800XXL. The Radeon 9800XXL
based on the R360 (Radeon 9800XT), is to lie performance-related
between the 9800Pro and the 9800XT. The Medion 9800XXL is equipped
with a VGA and a DVI i exit. The R360 chip is clocked with 390MHz, the
memory modules of Hynix has 2.8 LV and runs with 340MHz.

    (from http://www.rage3d.de IIRC)

    L.

Looks like a very good deal, really like the inbuilt card reader and the scart connection so you can connect to the TV, comes with a wireless keyboard and mouse and a Remote Control.

What's the story with Aldi then? Do they take credit cards or are they cash only? Do you need to be there first thing Thursday morning or do they get a decent number in stock? Did I hear that with their lap top deal you just filled out an order form rather than a big rush on limited stock?
    Thanks.

no creditcards but they do take laser cards, which is nice.

Remember that you can ask the manager to order one up for you if you miss them in the morning.

You can order as many as you want this way, I know a school that is getting 6 of them.

They take cash or laser card

    Does Aldi usually take preorders?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,143 ✭✭✭spongebob

these are post orders Adam, they have reorder window of about 2 weeks for certain specials once they are out of stock.

you need to get a form off the manager in the shop.

So you can order the PC up to two weeks after the offer? Would it be delivered to your address or to the shop you order it from?

Question regarding this PC.....Would it be easy to build a similar spec for the same price or is this exceptional?

I like the idea of being able to read credit cards and SIM cards although I'd probably never use it.

I doubt you could build it for the price. It has a warranty too. Does it come with an OS?

They will have machines in the shop but they may all be gone by 9.15 AM , who knows.

If so you track down a manager and order them.

Is the graphics card in the Aldi PC an All in Wonder? I didn't think it was....makes it more appealing if it is though.

It's even better value cause that NEC 1300 is only 4 speed I think.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 843 ✭✭✭^whitey^

Dont know if its an all in wonder but the aldi PC has stereo tv, radio and prgrammable recording so I guess its all the same.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 296 ✭✭JP Mulvano

Has anyone ever gone thru the buying one of these machines from ALDI.

Whats the story with the ordering the PC beforehand and also the re-rodering them. Has anyone ever done this or knows someone who has?

Just looking for a definitive answer on it. Cheers

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 843 ✭✭✭^whitey^

You can't order them before hand. If you want one be there on the morning and que up before the shop opens. If you still don't manage to get one someone should be around who will take your details and order them for you. If not find the manager.

I'm not sure, but if it's the same principle as the DVD writers, they only took your name so they could call you in the unlikely event of there being any stock left over from other stores.
