I have a 28" widescreen tv with a dvd player and x-box plugged in atm....In the next week or so I will be adding a pc to the room for which I have only a ****ty monitor atm but I will be getting a new one in the future....I'm also kinda tight for space what with all this stuff....

What I'm wondering is would I be better off selling the tv and buying a tv card and monitor for the pc and run everything through that? Are there any potential problems with that setup??? Is an LCD worth the money or would I be better off with something like a 19/21" CRT???

Monitors can use the same resolution as HDTV, so image quality isn't an issue. If you can live with a monitor sized TV, then go for it. You'll have a built-in DVD player too.

I'd take the CRT over LCD if space isn't an issue. 21" CRT's are really big!

Space is kinda the issue really....I don't have enough room to put a decent monitor and tv in the room so the ideal world may be to join the two....I know it would be a drop in screen size for DVD watching but sure I could live with that....

    Keep the TV.

Buy a 15" TFT ( they are midget and don't take up much space really and have the same view area of a 17"CRT)

Or just run the pc through the TV. Most cards come with a tv out these days.

TV cards are nice and all but don't offer the picture quality of a normal TV when it comes to watching TV programs.

Also 28" wide screen sounds super sweet for DVD. Do you really want to ditch the telly?

I thought that using a tv as a monitor wasn't really possible due to the low quality of tv's....though I have planned on testing it out....

Yes 28" widescreen is pretty good for DVD alright....

The PC connected to the TV is create for games and movies, but pretty much ususable for most other things. It's almost impossible to read text from it without using a ridiculously big font. I ended up getting a TFT and using dual-output, the TFT for browsing and general windows things, and the TV for games.

There's absolutely no way I'd ever consider ditching the TV and using the monitor for everything. And now that I've been using TFT I wouldn't go back to CRT, they are definitely worth the extra money.

Hmmm so basically I still really need the two....and there was me hoping to replace the two into one for space reasons.....
