My house, the billboard

Just had a guy from Group 4 around asking if we'd be interested in advertising for them (basically putting a house alarm on the front to show off to the neighbours. I think the fee we get is a free alarm system). As its not my decision I told him to come back

anyone else ever heard of this or actually doing this?

Its quite common actually. Never heard of alarm systems though, seen things like windows etc...

Just make sure you read whatever your signing very carefully, otherwise you could end up with your house being a billboard.

ah well I wont be signing anything.... and tbh i dont think the parents are keen on getting an alarm system, free or not, the bastards never seem to go off at the right time... just ever other time (when they stop you know your in trouble)

I'll take your advice wiped, when he knocks back I'll invite him in and then smother him and bury him out the back... even if hes not a criminal... i just hate door to door salesmen (and this bugger rang the door bell and .02 seconds later started to beat the letterbox until i got to the door..... now thats how you make a sale...)[/rant]

They could be theives checking out how secure your house is. Then put a phony alarm on it - ask you when you're usually out of the house, then fecking rob ye.

I have heard of this stuff before - be very careful and be sure they really are from a company (get a phone number and some id)

Yeah two guys from Group 4 were around here about two weeks ago. The deal was for free installation (think it was normally about €400) if we put a group 4 box on the front of the house. You still have to pay the subscription ofc.
It's tied into your phone like merc said so if you have an ISDN line it wont work.

yeah - it's common in newly built areas. But as ^ said, watch the small print- you probably agree to pay maintenance fees or the installation is free, but the alarm isn't or the alarm is and the ins... you get the idea.

But also look at the pro's, you could have a wonderbra model on the side of your house?!!! :D:D

*giggles* ahem! typical! you never read the thread.. :p

i wouldn't really worry about security aspect: just have someone watch them while they're there. As for post-installation... well you're ****ed anyways: all (standard home) alarms have a manufacturers keycode (typically 4 digits) ... it's not like you're safer with one:ninja:
