Is there much of a difference between at 9800 and 9800pro?

1. Just wondering if there is much of a difference in proformance between the pro and none pro?

2. And can the non pro be clocked to a pro Standard?

3. What i was looking at was the all in wonder none pro card. Would it be worth getting ? The all in wonder 9800pro card cost alot more dosh and i dont know if its worth it.

What would you go for ?

1. Sod all difference. 10/20 frames depending on the game.

2. Prob, depends on the card and what quality memory it has. Chances are yes and a little beyond. The difference is so small oc-ing it is bollox in my mind.

3. An all in wonder 9800 would be pretty sweet. The performance difference between a 9800 and a 9800 pro really is minascule.

IMHO if both all in wonder cards sport exactly all the same features and the 9800 version is hell of a lot cheaper, go the 9800. You wont see the difference in performance by the naked eye, only in benchmarks!

I am personally a bit biased as i have a 9800 non pro and i have had nil problems with it.

It has run anything i have thrown at it well and offered most of the performance of a 9800 pro when i bought it for hell of a lot less :-)

Just go do your research, read around and take any advice you get with a pinch of salt. Then you can properly make up your mind.

20Fps is a huge difference, especially if you over-clocked a 9800 np to a pro, and got that much of a difference.

More benchmarks!

In this set of benchmarks the average differance is around

10 frames in differance 9800 vs 9800 pro

20 frames in differance 9800 vs 9800xt

1 frame in differance 9800 vs 9700 pro


True 20 frames is a huge differance, but at the level of performance you are at with a 9800 you wont see much differance between say 120 vs 140 frames in call of duty.

Even when you start to crank up the shine the 9800 still is getting above 60 frames for todays games. It wont have much trouble with the newer stuff either.

The only time you really pay for that 20 frame differance is towards the end of the life of the card but to be honest by the time a 9800 runs a game like a slide show, a 9800pro won't be much better off and it's time to build a new box :-)

Thats just my opinion.


By the way badcharlie just nasty thought but are you looking at a
9800se AIW by any chance?

I had a quick look round the web and the only 9800 series AIW cards were either 9800pros or 9800se's (the ones i could find anyhow :-) )

A 9800se is nowhere near a 9800 non pro as regards performance as is a compleately different beast. Just look at the link above.

Make sure it's def a 9800 non pro AIW and not an 9800se AIW

Thanks uberpixie for all that info. Had a look at the web sites and the 9800 non pro is very good indeed. I also had a look around and could not find any aiw 9800 non pro. But there is a shop in waterford that i have been told has one. I will go and check it out today. If its se i wont be getting it.

I own a 9800np, I've oc'd the GPU from 325 to 411 stable with an Artic VGA silencer, the memory is the bottleneck going from 295 to 305, any more and I get artifacts.

With everything on default settings I get:

Aquamark: 39900
3d Mark 03: 5576

When it comes to games I've never had problems with setting every detail to maximum.

I went down to the shop its an aiw 9800se. So i ended up in not buying it. Better check out the bench mark scores it gets from the sites

I would never buy a gfx card in a shop in Ireland. Every one I've seen has been way overpriced, some up to 5 times more expensive than buying online.

How much was the card?
You can get the 9800SE for €156 (incl VAT) from OcUK and the 9800 Pro for €207 (incl VAT) from JES computers.

What it was in the shop was 280euro. Which i said jee that sounds very pricey. But then i was told it had all in wonder and it was 9800 non pro, but after looking at all the bench marks i said a non pro is very good indeed and can if lucky be clocked to a pro. But when i went to the shop it was awi 9800se for 280euro which is crap.

The cheapst i found for an aiw 9800pro was 333dollars.

So i think i will just get the 9800pro everone else is getting. But this will be next month and by then the prices for the 9800pro aiw might have droped alot ??? After the new video cards come on market.

You could always look along the lines of a 9700pro AIW , same performance as the 9800non pro's (pretty much)............ just if you could pick one up at a good price.
