    Hi,

First I find this post very hard to write, I dont know why I just do, well my main problem if you can call it that is friends, I havent had a group of friends in a very long time, in the past I met a few plp through work etc.. and went out but it never lasted, im not a shy person and I always get on well with plp, but where do you go in my position where do you meet plp & become friends everyone seems to have their own group they've know for years, Im not really up for going into town or pubs on my own, so im wondering what are plp's suggestions for meeting plp im 19 and I find this very difficult,

    Thanks.................

    - if you're not gonig to pubs and clubs you have to find some other kind of social outlet. What are your interests? for example, if you're into sports then join a golf club or football club. If you are crap then join one of those fan clubs that are in the paper or something. **** it try going to salsa dancing or something like that. things like clubs etc. can seem a bit nerdy especially at your age, but they do work.
If you go and you don't enjoy it, try something else. The important thing is to get out of the house really.

    Best of luck

    I know what you mean
Its hard to know if someone wants to be friends outside of whatever formal situation you know them in.
It seems everyone has enough of their own friends already.
God when I think back to when I was 10, it was so easy to make friends, it was no big deal, friends just sort of happened.
I think the older we get the more picky we become, taking things into account that we wouldn't have before, like someones background, what they do for a living, their outlook on life blah blah... so many new reasons not to be friends with someone.
It can be a real bummer having to do stuff on your own all the time.

Depends what you're into I suppose, what are you intrested in?

    19 are you in college?

I'm sure a boards beer will be plugged along the line

Another thing you could try is getting involved in some charity work. Great bonds are made in a situation where a group are working towards a common goal.

As one of the previous posters mentioned, the only way it's going to happen is by joining in on some activity you are interested in and the friendships will develop from there.

I can understand your frustration when you see these other groups have bonded and settled into the pack ritual and you wonder "why not me".

I wish you good luck in building your friendships. Keep your chin up and remember that a friendship has to be nurtured so when you join a group, invite people into your life, you make the suggestion for a meet up. Don't wait for others to come to you, always be the first to make the plans and soon you will be centre of everyone elses plans.

I don't mean to be insensitive to your obviously sincere quesion, but... you're asking the people on boards.ie how to meet people!

If you're based in Dublin, just go to the next Boards Beer and meet loads of poeple who cannot interact socially. Honestly. And they seem to compete, indeed thrive, on the basis of how "bad" their social fit is!

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Just be yourself, it'll all come together.

The problem is you don't go to pubs/clubs. That's really the only thing to do in this boring country + it's where you meet up with people. That's why we have such a problem with alcoholism in the country.

Prehaps you're looking for to much in these people? Real friends takes years to become that, they are the ones that are there through the tough times as well as the goods. they like you for who you are, even if who you are isn't always the best person. What you want are casual likeminded people to be mates with. Love to be able to tell you how to find them, I seem to just collect these people, I think its an attitude thing

    hey ***

i always wondered this question too.

i had a group of friends and we kind of broke up and moved our seperate ways. i felt lost and wondered how the hell was i to meet friends. lads are easy to tlalk to if your a girl but girls is a different story.

onenight i was out in my local night club and started talking to this girl who was friends wiht someone i know and somehow we just clicked, i dont know how but we did and are friends since, but not so close any more as we are in different parts of the country anymore.
i find it hard myself to make friends. i am in collgeg with a ggreat group but i would find it difficult to form strong friendship wiht them as im wary of that.

however, if your in cork and would like a friend im here. i could always do with a new friend or someone to know.
