Was recording a demo cd for a few mates of mine yesterday and they had to leave some of their equipment here. One of which was a 200w amp. So what did i do today? That's right, hooked it up to the pc and am playing all my music and games through it. WHOOM! Ya can feel the base vibrating everywhere... sweet. Anyways thought you guys might like to take a look.

I have a turtle beach santa cruz (not the best i know, but it's alright). All i did was get a mini stero 1 meter cable... stick one of those big fat converters on the end, put that into the 'guitar' port disabled all the distortion stuff on the amp, plugged the other end into the speaker port on the sound card and away i go.

Any mono or stereo RCA connector will do the job. PC soundcard's are able to drive very little power but because you're hooking it up to an AMP you need very little anyway.

That was the point i was making. Anyways it sounds sweet... pity i have to keep it relativly low tho.... both neighbors are home, and i dont fancy getting a knock on the door by the guards any time soon.

You put the computer through a guitar amp? The poor thing. That's why people should never leave gear in other people's houses. And marshall don't make a 500W amp.

haha i live in the country u can hear this thing over 3 miles away!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,258 ✭✭✭MrVestek

Lol what's wrong with that? Works dont it?

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

It works but it isn't too good for the speaker and the electronics, especially tube or modeller amps like that Line 6. Surprised the speaker wasn't farting.

Errr uhhh *pretends to understand* yes ok.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Just saying, guitar amps don't like things that aren't guitar signals running through them. You can run signals through solid state amps with little worry but not tube or modeller amps. I'll go back to me instruments board now. Good day.

So if i have it up too high it'll explode? COOL!!!! Now... where's that volume button? Hang on i just realised, this amp is worth €500. *opens www.buyandsell.ie*

I have my computer hooked up to a stereo, and it's far louder and cleaner than my 130W Marshall.

The sound just doesn't translate that well onto guitar amps.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

130W? Eh, afaik, Marshalls don't make 130W amps. Unless you have a 65W amp running in stereo.

You go Feylya, you go girl! :)

Actually glad that in the number of replies this thread got at least one person had the sense to point out that the amp will not like it one bit!

Turn it up real loud, go on! :) I dare ya!

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

The sick thing is, it's not even his amp!

Lesson: Never leave your amp in someone elses house!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,989 ✭✭✭✭Giblet

Yes its a 65W amp in stereo, with the same sine waves coming from each, so it IS technically 130W volume wise...so there!

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Aye, that's what I said. Had a typo in my post, as in a wrong word. Hmm, I'd say that's loud!

    RMS or PMPO?

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Guitar amps are always RMS afaik.

Well they took it away earlier, was so sorry to see it go. Anyways i showed them what i'd done and they were like 'sweet' I played some metallica through it at not even 15% volume and they had to shout to talk to me... so sweet... sweetness.... such sweetness on a stick.

Good thing you didn't play something with any bass in it! :D

I can almost hear the hissing, so let me just say I'm not refering to the Burton days! :D

    Nice cushion on the chair.

But does the amp go to 11 ? The really good ones do.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

btw afaik Line 6 don't make a two hundred watt amp tbh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,008 ✭✭✭rabbitinlights

I really dont listen to watt Rating's on speakers, Cus ive heard 80W speakers disgrace 150W speakers, Build quality and the amount of drivers etc would make a big difference. although, lenny's 600W bad boys are kinda scary........:D

Yeah i love gay decore, lol. No they're old cushions from the downstairs sitting room (i live with my mother, go figure) anyways without them, and sitting on this chair, my ass gets sore, pretty quickly. One of the crappy ass build of chairs... can't be bothered getting a new one tho.

I say if its got a socket plug it in

I've no amp for guitar so its plugged into mic socket on pc, out to boston surround pc skeakers then looped out to technics amp and bose speakers (thats 6 speakers + Woofer) and oh the quality and kick

I'd agree with ignoring watts it means nothing if it makes ur ears bleed but sounds like crap my Amp is 30watt and speakers 60

BUT doing that to someone elses Gear thats just like mean man unless u don't like them then its called revenge

BTW U can make as much noise as u like uptill 9pm after that its a public order issue

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,258 ✭✭✭MrVestek

Lol it's been gone two days now. Anyways when i showed the guys who owned the amp they were like 'wow cool'. They didn't care.. dont see why anyone else should!

Anyone got any opinions on Logitech Z-640s?
They're cheap on Komplett, and I was thinking of getting a set.
