yes. trains anyway. _if_ it goes ahead. it isn't "happening". it's proposed.
    (isn't it just thursday?)

    look at cie.ie:
Threatened Unofficial Action, Thursday 18 March 2004 by Media & P.R.

Threatened Unofficial Action, Thursday 18 March 2004

Iarnród Éireann has advised customers that it cannot guarantee any services across InterCity, DART and Commuter on Thursday 18 March, due to threatened unofficial action by SIPTU, and possibly other unions.

The company urges SIPTU and other unions not to engage in this unofficial action, which will needlessly disrupt our customers and damage the company.

Regrettably, it is expected at this time that all services to our passenger and freight customers will be cancelled on Thursday.

Services will return to normal on Friday 19 March.

Iarnród Éireann apologises to customers for this disruption.

    and buseireann.ie:
Bus Éireann warns customers of disruption to services.

Bus Éireann advises customers that, because of industrial action planned by SIPTU for Thursday 18 March, the Company expects to be unable to operate any services throughout that day.

Bus Éireann is not in dispute with any of the trade unions representing the Company's employees.

Bus Éireann regrets the inconvenience to customers as a result of this industrial action.

 cie isn't as informative as it needs to be...shock..

They had originally said they might, but I'm sure a couple of bright sparks realised all the extra pay they'd be giving up (not to mention the negative public attention).

Should be nice and quiet in work if all the students can't get in......excellent :p

Then you walk around with a sign up proclaiming the end is nigh and that you need someone to talk to CIE on your behalf.

Stand at a bus stop before the strike (ie today) and when the bus stops, ask the driver when he/she will be striking this week.

SIPTU calls off bus and rail stoppage
    March 17, 2004

(20:19) SIPTU general officers have directed that tomorrow's planned one-day stoppage to bus and rail services be called off, after lengthy debate at a meeting of the union's strike committee at Liberty Hall.

The committee's view was that the letter from the Taoiseach that the union received on Monday night was not a meaningful intervention.

However, the general officers took a different view and directed that the actions be called off under the union's rule 169.

The planned stoppage at Bus Éireann, Dublin Bus and Iarnród Éireann was due to begin at midnight.

The Minister for Transport, Séamus Brennan, had earlier called for a quick decision by SIPTU on the stoppage.

Speaking earlier today on RTÉ Radio, Mr Brennan said if the union decided to proceed with the action, the public needed to know as soon as possible in order to make alternative transport arrangements.

Mr Brennan said progress was being made in talks between the Government and unions and that there was no justification for a bus and rail strike.

Mr Brennan welcomed SIPTU's decision yesterday not to proceed with a planned six-hour stoppage tomorrow at Dublin, Cork and Shannon airports.

The minister also said most of the financial information being sought by the unions would probably be made available in the next fortnight.
