Just wondering, do I need planning permission to erect a tower ?

Thinking of getting a 20/30 foot Lattice Tower to recieve from NI.

    Tks

You probably will. Not sure but I think if the tower is going to be a certain height, it needs permission. You'll need to find out for sure though, or else chance it, say nothing, and throw the tower up some day nobody's looking! :p

The guidelines vary between local authoritiy areas but its pretty acedemic as theyre widely ignored (Drive through parts of Kildare and youll see some crazy metwalwork on peoples houses. How they never get hit by lightning ill never figure out)

In Castlebar for instance Im told the official rule is something like one aerial per house not more than 33ft above ground or 10ft above an existing building

virtually every house in town is in breach of the guidelines

But then again if you build without planning permission and nobody objects within 10 years it acquires planning permission by default anyway (or so Im told)

My neighbours are all family, so they wont be complaining

I reckon I'll be grand then, sure I'm only putting it on top of a hill beside a busy road, no one will see that

Looks like I'm off to chat with Offaly CC

Yes I heard about the 30ft pole / 10ft on roof of house rule.

(My radio aerials are on 10ft poles on Chimney stack).

I thought deadline for objections on unapproved items was 5 years though.

I know someone with 40ft mast in Co. Clare had to get permission, He got it, so I suppose not to big a problem!.

Go for 40ft or more or else you wasting money as a pole on a chimney will do near as well.

    90ft is nice :-)

I reckon I'll have about 60foot high tower, above the ground. I should be able to get digital from NorthernIreland, as I'm not much further south than mullingar.

make it clear in the application that its for recieve only (these council rednecks have a paranoia about mobile phone masts etc)
