windows 2000 shutdown

    is there any way to make this thing shutdown by itself? having to sit there waiting for it to tell me its ready to go to sleep really manages to waste a lot of time...

    How old is the PC you are using?, check if you have ACPI enabled in your BIOS.

    If it's Windows 2000, go in to Power Options in the Control Panel. Click the APM tab and then enable Advanced Power Management support.

    This sorted out my shutting down woes.

    thanks but there's no option to just shut down. only one to "show icon in task bar". ah well. i would try the bios but havnt a clue how to reach it. f1, ctrl + f1, esc, f10...feck all results. thanks anyway.

    Did you make it yourself?
    Did you buy it off a company (Dell, etc)
    Wots the name (Dell has 8200 Dimernsion, etc)

    nah its a compaq armada 1700. got it free a while ago so i dont really mind it being a piece of bollok, to put it mildly.

    Delete would probably be the BIOS key, or Insert.
