Laptop refresh question

I have an Acer Aspire 1700 laptop - and have a question regarding the refresh rate of the screen - maybe someone out there will know.

Bascially, in the display properties the only refresh rate availabile is 60 Hertz. When the 'hide mode that this monitor cannot display' check box is selected this is the only refresh rate you can select, but when you unselect it you can select up you 85 Hertz. Having said that, the monitor type in the properties is 'default monitor'

What I want to know is... Is it safe to run the screen on the laptop @ 85h without damaging the screen? The factory default setting is like i said above, 60h with hide modes. The reason I want to increase it is because in games there is some refresh rate related glitchyness which is noticable esp when you're turning.. when its set at 85h, its gone, but i don't know if i'm causing damage!
