My PC is broken. It keeps restarting whenever it chooses and I am 100% sure it is a hardware problem. I am going to buy a new PC. The PC i have atm is nearly 3 years old and has everything it came with. DVD drive, CD-RW, floppy, monitor, speakers, 1Ghz, 38GB hard drive, keyboard, mouse, printer+ink, 56k modem and more. All it need is a replacement part to whatever is broke and it will work perfect.

If you think people would be interested, how much would I get?

because it restarts when it feels like it.
    Probably still usable, but irritating.

That was a question I meant to ask. Is it worth getting it fixed? Will I make much of a profit when I sell it after getting it fixed? Also, where could i get it repaired for cheap.

PS - sorry for putting in the wrong forum.

If all the components work, you might be better off dismantling it and selling the pieces as separates, e.g. HDD, CD-RW, Memory chips etc.

Realistically, I wouldn't expect to get that much for them though.

Just a quick question before you decide to sell it, irish life. What operating system are you running? Because, if you're running Windows 2000 or Windows XP, I'm just wondering if you might have picked up the MS Blaster / RPC virus. That's the main symptom of that virus, random restarts, and seeing as how you say it keeps restarting whenever it feels like it, I'm just wondering if that might be the cause. Do you happen to get any error messages or anything like that before it restarts?

And as for buying a whole new PC, why? Why don't you try out all your components on someone else's PC or something to determine what piece of hardware it is that might be causing the problem, if it isn't that virus, and throw that piece of hardware out (if it can't be fixed)? Then, salvage whatever else you can from your current machine, e.g. DVD drive, CD Rewriter, modem, floppy drive, keyboard, mouse, monitor, etc. Buy the guts of a new machine, i.e. new motherboard, processor, bigger hard drive (maybe keep your existing one as a secondary drive), memory, graphics card and a new case, maybe, and then build a new machine using the new parts and the bits you salvaged from your old machine. That way, you're getting a new machine, essentially, but saving yourself a few bob on things that you already have and know are working okay like the DVD and CD-RW drives, keyboard, monitor, etc. I mean, why throw out or get rid of perfectly good stuff that's working only to shell out for them all over again when buying a new machine? That's what I would do, anyway. Besides, you're not going to get much for a three year old system of that spec these days. PC's depreciate like crazy nowadays.

it doesnt sound like msblast tbh, that virus causes a machine to restart at fixed intervals, every minute if i remember correctly, not rando/ intermittant restarts.

i found the picture of that pc amusing as i have a fujistu scaleo also that gave up the ghost in may of last year. didn't know what was wrong with it still don't actually, something just started making a funny noise, i pulled the power on it wouldn't start back up again. pulled it apart probably messed up the cpu in the processor and mounted the m/b arseways.

i'd like to get it fixed as there was nothing wrong with it other then that but i can't justify forking out 100-200euro to do so when i could probably get similar specced pc off boards that someone is selling with no hassle.

we should meet up and swap parts until we know what wrong with each :D

    data

if you get a new one, try and make sure it's not a fujitsu siemens (don't think i'd need tot ell you that now though).

in my experience they are the single most underperforming pc on the market. i owned one of their laptops a few years back and it was aweful, and I've recently been dealing with some in work, and their lack of performance is very irritating.

stick with something a liitle more reliable. dell, hp, sony etc.

when in doubt ask the dudes here, they'll be glad to help you choose. some of us live to pick out other peoples new pc's. :D
