I thinking of joining a gym, it costs €599 a year (liffey valley fitness). Is this good or bad price?

Im in Limerick and I pay about 600 for the year - this includes the gym, 50m pool and sauna and all that other stuff. I suppose 599 isnt bad for Dublin is it? I thought it would be more - a friend of mine went into a gym in Dublin a few weeks ago and had to 15 euro for 1 hour - so I suppose 599 is good!

Jackie Skellys in Park West is €59 per month. Dont know if that helps, but that what I pay.

I paid 725 for Jackie Skelly's for the year, but they have so many offers on I dont think anyone pays the same price twice!

Think its around the 600-650 mark at the moment.

My advice - try negotiating..I reckon they might go for it...especially if they havent made their sales targets yet.

Thats the new place the far side of B&Q, isn't it? Does it have a pool? I would say that €599 is expensive if it doesn't. If I lived in that general area I would consider the National Aquatic Centre, I think they are less than that, and they obviously have world class pool facilities, etc. (Though if you are the wrong side of the toll bridge, it could be more expensive, I guess).

I'm a member of Jacky Skellys behind grafton street. (Not sure of the name of the street tbh :p)

59 per month. Good enough place I guess.

Its ok-ish. Not worth it really unless you are confined to the city.

I hear they are putting a pool in to that gym (the JS near Grafton Street), it'll be some place then.

Agreed, its a bit cramped. Nothing beats a purpose built gym. And yes I was handed a pamplet on JS with a new pool on its way, I cant think where its going though.

Yeah they are doing the whole place up. Its not interfereing with the current setup. I guess they bought some place next to it. Its small, but not too small. I am confined to the city pretty much ;). The free weights room is good enough. Although thats where you could throw the whole cramped thing... 6 people in it and there really isn't any room! But I've never seen 6 people in there at once.

I go to Westwod in Clontarf and pay 70 Euro/month.

Heading to Limerick in 2 weeks, hope to find a good one there....

Coney Island - the gym in the UL Arena in Castletroy (www.universityarena.com) is great for weights and cardio, Crunch fitness in the city is more suited for cardio - weights arent that good.

Crunch Fitness used to run a deal a while ago, 300 euros a year or so, and that large gym in Blanch is offering 350 a year - they are well equipped, but a bit too crowded!

Im a member of Total Fitness. Mebership was €540ish. Which seems to be the going rate these days. Have only been to Sandyford location but i cant say a bad word about the gym its got everything.

I'm member of Westpoint Gym at the Blanchardstown Shopping Center and I pay 49€ per month. You can also pay for 14 months, then it's 350€ which is a pretty good offer I think and the gym is nice, don't have anything to complain about.

Problem with Ben's great price offer on westpoint is that now the place is apparently crowded beyond belief now. I think anything above e50 per month is an absolute rip off. The best health club in Ireland in terms of size, equipment etc. is definitely TF in sandyford and that is 549 per year. Their dumbbells only go upto 60kgs which is a tad light but apart from that it's a good gym. Sh1te atmosphere. Crunch Fitness, I was once a member in UCD but the equipment is sparse and the free weights are a joke.

that JS fitness behind Grafton street would be Jackie Skelly Clarendon Street.

Your all being ripped off!!! .... UCD ..... its about €300 (cheaper for students) for the year and its open to non students and members of the public!

Great place and so much equipment!

Can someone reconcile these two statements please? A third opinion would be nice. ;)

Incidently I would say that 60kg dumbells would be way in excess of what joe soap would need....

Its average at best. Most of the resistance training equipment are way too old, broken and you need to buy a nose-clip and a lot of guts to use the change rooms. I stopped going there 1 month into my 1-year pre-paid membership – 300 yoyos down the drain. Crunch in Galway was just as dirty, and smaller, but as usual, cheaper. I guess the usual 'you get what you pay for' logic goes here too.

On the positive side, during weekends, you will get to see (quite inspiring, really) all different kinds of competitive events around you and a lot of martial arts training too!

Well I used to bench big numbers of a Saturday and I can see how this would be inspiring!:D However the place really has very little going for it as a gym, poor layout, poor equipment in the weights end the cardio one cannot fault as it's plentiful and in working condition, poor staff and terrible changing areas. You do get what you pay for BUT TF could do memberships for 299 per year and still make good money. e500+ is what we are conditioned to expect.

Anyone have any prices for gyms in Roscommon/Athlone?
