Yet another thread looking for advice on gfx cards....

I am going building a system soon enough and have started looking at gfx cards....it's a bloody minefield out there.....I'm looking at spending about €150 on it....

This is taking my fancy at the moment....What do ye think....Is it a good card....

Also I read that the ATI cards are not up to much where Linux is concerned....how true is this....I was going to build a dual boot system as I like playing about with Linux but it won't be much fun if the gfx card doesn't work....

    Any other suggestions welcome.....

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

If you can stretch your budget with another €60, you can get a 9800 pro from jes-computer.de

I know lots of ppl who went for the 9800 pro, and they are very happy with it.

Stretch the budget, get the PRO card.

The thing is that I won't be doing a huge amount of gameplaying so how can I justify getting a 9800pro....I'm actually considering the FX5600 XT card as well....

Oh and is it just me or is there a huge ATI following here?

Go for the Sapphire 9600 XT. It's a great card and it's not over your budget. Haven't used it yet as I'm in the middle of building my 1st pc but from all the reviews I've read and from the comments here on boards, it's a great card for that price. I'm not a gamer but would like to have something that could handle the latest games should I decide to play them.

i don't think its a particularly huge ATI following, rather they make the best graphics cards right now.

Consider a year ago everybody here had geforce3's and geforce4 Ti's.

People with tech savvy buy whats best, not what the marketing people tell them, so people will never really be fanboy's to the extent that xbox/gc/ps2 people might be.

Dont get a 5600xt. The 5600 was bad enough without making it slower for the XT version. The 5900xt is good though most will overclock beyond 5900 Ultra speeds.

But dont be fooled by NVidia's XT its an under clocked version, generaly with slower Ram.
