I dont know whether it is any better but I want to point out that it doesnt have a DVI input. It only has an analogue input. I wanted to get it at first coz it was black but changed my mind because of the DVI thingy.

I just built a computer for someone and thats the monitor they wanted.

Contrast is pretty good but it's far too bright for my tastes. Also it only has an analogue input and so it shimmers with certain colours.

I have the Hitachi CML174SXWB 17" TFT Monitor (Carbon) (MO-001-HI)see here , same price (uses the same LCD panel), contrast isn't as good, blacks aren't as black. But brightness is just right and it has DVI and Analogue input.

Both are 16ms response time, so they're great for gaming. In my opinion though if you're going to go for an LCD monitor make sure it has DVI input, makes a world of difference.

[Edit]This must be new, £20 dearer on OC.co.uk but with 12ms response and 500:1 contrast, i'd definately consider that if I were you.[/edit]

That 12ms one does not have DVI either.

I will be getting a 9800 Pro with it too. Any ideas which one I should get?

And is DVI really that important?

    Thanks :)

If you want an outstanding TFT + DVI & VGA & 16ms response --> which isnt the main thing when it comes to TFT's anyway you can get it here:

Viewsonic VP171S Pro Series 17" TFT Monitor - Silver

Its a brilliant monitor, better than the 1710/20B,

    Here is a review

    Thanks joePC

I'm not sure whether this is due to my laptop but before I had my rig set up I connected my TFT to my laptop on analogue. After using it on DVI, I must say the difference is a lot and it is my better on DVI. But like I saied, it could have been my laptop's problem.

It's not your laptop, its the signal going from digital - analogue - digital again.

With the DVI it's digital all the way with no conversion.

    Just ordered the Viewsonic JoePc.

    It really does look outstanding.

    Thanks for the suggestion
