im building a pc that will be mainly for office work so i was thinking of putting a celron 2.4ghz in it , but it will also be used a little bit for gaming
how poor will it be for games if i put a decent enough 3d card in it?

Celrons are really bad when it comes to games you would be better off with a XP2000+, the high clock speed is what gets you, I understand but stay away if you want to run any intensive games.

The XP 2500+ is about the same price as the celli go with that.

    Thanks joePC

It wouldn't be that bad. I suspect that newer games would struggle a bit

Do what joe says aswell. Xp's are around the same price, better off with a Xp than a Celeron

depends on game really - i have a mate who has a celeron laptop (so graphics are crap too) and it runs Age of Mythology, Medal of Honour, Generals etc etc without a problem...

However, I agree with everyone, better to get the Athlon...

i do wonder though how a celeron would perform with a high end graphics card, anyone got any benchmarks?

edit i got off my ass and dug some out myself

Even overclocked to over 3ghz the celeron is beaten by every other chip out there.

i edited my post after checking i found the celron was even worse than i imagined stay well clear :)

also remember if you are going to upgrade your cpu that you may need to upgrade your 3d card if it isnt so good or it will be a bottleneck and you wont notice much differnce in fps

you will also need a new motherboard and ram for the athlon

keep having to edit my posts, im tired :/
