Looking to give up for three months or so, but i still want to be able to socialise with my friends, so I was wondering does anyone know of some decent non alcoholic drinks servered in bars. I get really really tired of coke and all that other fizzy crap they serve.

Try Cidona, it looks like cider. Nobody will notice that you are on the dry.

i'm off it at the mo, Kaliber is nice but largely unavailable in pubs as is Erdinger non-alco. Becks is a bit crap but drinkable, other than that still water is a v. good option.

    Pinapple juice is very nice.

But be warned, it is a bit like Orange juice, in that if you drink enough of it you will probably end up on the pot for a while.

All pubs have mixers like my-wadair stuff to be mixed with water. they have it for cocktails but im sure u can get a glass of it. and it would be a chance from that fizzy stuff

That is one serious problem - I notice a lot more people don't drink when they are out, and there really isn't a great deal of choice available. You would imagine someone could offer long-necks or pints of non-alcoholic beer, wouldn't you.

Drinking soft drinks all night is not a good idea, for a start you won't be able to sleep with all the caffeine / sugar running round you, and next day you may well have hangover-type effects.

I usually go for pints of blackcurrant and water or lime and water. Some bars charge you for this, others don't (anything over 70c is a rip off in my book). In my experience if there is one of these in each round, then they never charge, its different if you are buying alone, or if a few people are doing the same. You also have to watch for the scabby bar man, who'll either give you a small glass (meaning you'll be empty long before everyone else), or will not add enough mi-wadi (tastes horrible).

The other drink I occassionaly go for is a 'Becks non-alcoholic shandy'. You usually have to explain this one to the barman - it is simply a330ml bottle of Becks non alcoholic in a pint glass topped off with 7-up / white lemonade. Tastes much better than Becks alone, and looks just like you are drinking beer - that means you are not going to be harassed all night by everyone - 'ah, leave the car here!', 'go on, we're all out for a good night', etc - they simply assume you are drinking too. AFAICR it doesn't cost that much either, maybe in or around €3.

Becks non-alcoholic shandy also has the added advantage of shocking people when they see you drinking it all night, and then going to your car and driving off past them in the taxi queue.

This is usefull, do allot of pubs stock this stuff. I don't mind giving up alocohol, in the sense that I never go out with the intention of getting pissed and generally I don't drink to much anyway. Just I can't stand drinking that fizzy stuff all night long, up and down to the toilet every five seconds.

I just drink pint glasses of water when I go out. Too many fizzy drinks are almost as bad as alcohol. They'll only dehydrate you. I can't drink a lot of orange juices or other juices either.

You get used to people trying to persuade you to drink and also your friends stop trying to get you to drink to make them feel comfortable and just leave you be.

Madison is a nice creamy apple drink which is occasionally available. Delicious.

When I'm not drinking, I'd mix a strong juice (like pineapple or cranberry) with some sparkling iced water. That way it's not too sweet, and is easy on the tummy.

In general i'm off the beer the majority of the time (I've been drunk three times in three years since i gave it up).

Becks N/A isn't too bad after the first few, i found it a little weird although a lot more drinkable than the alcoholic stuff.

Holsten N/A if ya can find it is generally nicer, i find it goes down easier (i've been known to have very upset stomachs with the N/A Becks on occasion)

Kaliber is VERY rare at this point, and STILL tastes like pish, last place i found that stuff was in some bar in Ballincollig Co. Cork, can't remember the name of it.

Failing that, i stick to the 7up, due to the fact that i can sleep as opposed to being loaded up with caffeine from Coca Cola!

    Nero
